Life threatening danger demands an emergency plan of action.

The 5 Step Program: 1. Check the facts; 2. Contain the oil; 3. Supersede fossil fuels on a crisis basis, creating millions of jobs; 4. Rapidly inspire widespread public support to catalyze the necessary Congressional action. 5. Ironically, this can create the missing stimulus to truly revive the economy.

In Ticking Time Bomb, John Atcheson warns of the Tipping Point threat posed by melting permafrost in the Arctic, as a consequence of Global Warming. Twice before, methane appears to have virtually wiped out life on earth. One of those events reduced life to single celled organisms. It took millions of years to recover.

In Worst Case Scenario, the scientist (pseudonym, magellanic) stated his concern that the loop current will eventually carry the oil from the Gulf into the Atlantic. Fortunately, according to the NOAA the loop current is, thus far, not doing so. Storm activity could conceivably cause that to change. NOAA also said the Florida Keys, Miami and Fort Lauderdale areas were more likely to see oil wash ashore (a probability of 61 to 80 percent) than much of the west coast of Florida. Oil is therefore extremely likely to enter the Atlantic ocean.

Oil entering the Atlantic may be picked up by the Gulf Stream. Magellanic warns an exceptionally thin film on the surface of the North Atlantic and Arctic oceans could reflect sunlight, increasing the temperature and accelerating the melting of the permafrost, releasing huge amounts of methane - in addition to the multitude of Greenhouse gases released by the gusher. He sees that event triggering the life threatening Tipping Point. He suggests it may be possible to prevent much of the oil from entering the ocean by creating a barrier at the "narrows" between Key West and Cuba, using a flotilla of fishing boats and pleasure craft.
