Trump, Not Media, is Real 'Enemy of the People'

First Amendment freedoms are jeopardized through the suppression of free speech and freedom of the press. This is dangerous for the president to play against the sacred principles of the U.S. Constitution.

Trump takes pleasure in demonizing journalists as “the enemy of the American people.” In so doing, he chips away at an integral aspect of a well-functioning democratic society.

Trump’s hostile rhetoric toward journalists has been used by dictators and despots who aim to silence or shut down the media. But an American president who resorts to such vitriol is sounding a dog whistle for violence against reporters by labeling them as enemies of the state. This is obviously anathema to democratic practices and principles.
