Facing sexual harassment allegations, the Democratic congressman and 'dean of the House' says, 'I am retiring today.'

He added soon after. “And I want everyone to know how much I appreciate the support — the incredible, undiminished support I’ve received across the years from my supporters, not only in my district but across the country as well.”

He has endorsed his son to replace him.

Practically unbelievable but true - after spending nearly a lifetime in congress and even decades on the House Judiciary Committee, Conyers could not manage to find a single hour to hold an Impeachment Hearing on Bush ("Nuremberg At the Dawn of the 21st Century") and Cheney, even with 35 Articles of Impeachment pending for hearings and votes in his Committee (110th Congress - super Democrat Majorities in the House and Senate) - presented to him by Rep Dennis Kucinich.

By not impeaching the two he may have surely expedited a rise of the Imperial President ("Abolish The Tools") - e.g., thus Bush remains "above the law" ("Attorney General" was "Duty Bound") in the United States and remains above "the reach of law" and justice (we "have a need to look forward" - Barack Obama) as well.

I think the empty seat of every politician who is ousted or leaves due to sexual harassment activity should be filled by a woman.

That is not only "Sexist". but completely unsupported,
Leadership and integrity are not to be determined solely on the basis of sexual orientation.
American women have proven that they are the 'equal' of men, in clawing their way to Power over the bodies of victims. Nothing matters; Except winning!

Why is John Conyers leaving office because of harassment but not Donald Trump?

Someone answered "WATB" and "IOIYAR" -- both of which I had to google.

IOIYAR is It's OK If You Are Republican.

WATB stands for "Whiny Assed t*tty Baby"!

Surprisingly, John Conyers never left office sooner for me - like in November 2006 when he was "presented" with a 9/11 Treason MEMO and never held a Hearing and never introduced "The September 11, 2001 Treason Independent Prosecutor Act" to Congress.

The American people still wanted to know what really happened on 9/11 and WHO (#SendEMail) was really responsible - by his not holding Hearings on #911Treason I believe he left the nation in darkness ("the American people deserve the truth" - noted Architect Richard Gage) even to this day. #PrimaryInsideExplosives.

Term limits are strange way of making up for voters ignorance.

Voters should always make a good choice thinking if the guy they vote for does the best job or not. If (s)he does, it's OK for 50 years, if not, two years are too many.

My apologies. It's WATB, not IATB, and WATB stands for "Whiny Assed t*tty Baby"!

IOIYAR is It's OK If You Are Republican.

So, the end result of the harassment scandals may very well be that Al Franken and Conyers leave but Trump and Moore win. :(
