' “There’s an ideological pattern that is common .“The world is seen as in a bad shape, and what hinders it becoming a better place are the Jews.” 'The accumulated incidents in Europe and the UShave highlighted how an ancient prejudice is surging in the 21st century in both familiar and mutant ways, fusing ideologies that otherwise would have little overlap. The spike is taking place in a context of rising global economic uncertainty, an emphasis on race and national identity, and a deepening polarization between the political left and right in Europe and the United States over the conflict between Israel and the Palestinians.'

I remember how Paul LePage weighs in on anti-Semitism with an anti-Semitic trope of his own

"Because every news cycle these days has to be Extraordinarily Stupid, now the most crackpottian of Republican ex-governor crackpots also has to weigh in. Former Maine Gov. Paul LePage, who trails behind him a long history of racist statements, took to a radio program to explain that Jewish Americans are the financiers of the Democratic Party . "The Jewish people in America have been great supporters of the Democratic Party," he said. "In fact, that's where their money comes from for the most part. They should be absolutely insulted for what [Omar's] been saying."

If there was anyone who could wedge an anti-Semitic trope about Jewish money into their hand-wringing about anti-Semitism, it would be Paul LePage. Or Donald Trump. Or, let's be honest, about a hundred other top conservatives who continue to use their offices to promote conspiracy theories about George Soros being secretly behind worldwide migration patterns while insisting that they don't mean anything untoward by that."

BTW I know lots of smart ,fine people, who say things which they insist, don't mean anything 'untoward."

Jews are not the only Semites in this world. Islam and Christianity are also Semitic religions.

Israel deserves much criticism for its anti-Semitic actions. USA deserves far more.

Reserving the term "anti-Semitic" for Jews is a subtle form of racism, promoting the idea the Jews are better than everyone else and deserve special privileges, including immunity for crimes committed against non-Jews.

From the Times article: "..... spiking and ebbing in correlation with spasms of violence between the two sides." That is false equivalence. One side is victim, the other side openly racist and guilty of invasion and ethnic cleansing.

"There has been Anti-Semitism, the Nazis, Hitler, Auschwitz, but was that their fault? They see but one thing: we have come and we have stolen their country. Why would they accept that?" -David Ben Gurion, quoted by Nahum Goldmann in The Jewish Paradox

It is interesting that Ben Gurion admitted that the Palestinians represented genetically the people of the Old Testament. European Jewry was primarily the result of conversion circa 700 CE.

There are common tendencies to conflate Judaism with Zionism and Israeli citizenship. There are Jews who are anti-Zionist and Israelis who oppose the current government of Israel. I feel comfortable standing with Jews for Justice and Peace Now in defending Palestinian rights.

Fear of truth comes promptly to mind... Please, please prove me wrong. As in anyone reading this...

I also ask, after watching this short video, WHY there are any further questions asked on this topic click here

Explanations and dissent encouraged, while silence sounds like thunder.

When Israel became a state, its policies immediately became subject to criticism, just like any other state.

As a state established for the exclusive benefit of Jews, Israel exposed itself to the criticism of being an affront to universal human values.

When supporters of the state of Israel began conflating criticisms of Israeli policies with anti-semitism, they shamelessly abdicated their integrity, using the deaths of six million to try to place themselves above criticism.

And in the violent dispossession of Palestinian semites, Israel and its supporters became, along with right-wing racists, the Cain and Able of anti-semitism.
