President Bush can not continue spending billions of dollars on foreign wars while blatantly ignoring middle and working class Americans at home.
Sooner or later, the president's policies will fail because Bush is ignoring the wealth-consuming sectors of the economy at home.
The best hope of salvaging some semblance of law and order in Iraq, and refocusing American military attention on the proper target of anti-terrorism efforts, Afghanistan, would be for the White House to rally international support and withdrawal American troops. No doubt the immediate result of American withdrawal from Iraq will be bloody and devastating, but Bush's current policy only drags out the inevitable bloodbath by freely expending US troops.
After US armed forces are removed from the Iraqi theater, billions of dollars in revenues will be freed up to improve the lot of ordinary Americans.
Unless Bush intends to fund a perpetual military-industrial-government complex, at the risk of losing liberty and democracy at home, this is the only reasonable course of action.
