Tell 'em the Conservatives would not have gone to war P4

The other Conservative I saved was a true card carrying conservative although still left wing compared to Blair. More on Blair later. He was Madsen Pirie, the Adam Smith Institute spokesman, who is blissfully unaware that he owes his Uriah Heep lifestyle to me. This is an extreme organisation?. Thatcher?s think tank and the advocator of the Poll Tax which many people see as the final, final straw when the Brits dumped the rusty old lady.

The shame is that Adam Smith is a hero. An astute Scot making sense of his surroundings during an astonishing time for Scotland in terms of industry and commerce. No Pirie, he would never have supported the cruel and unusual policies you advocate in his name. He would have deplored the poverty for a lot of Scots, on which your privileged position depends.

The occasion was a Conservative Party party. The Liberals had just won Sutton and Cheam in a Bye-election in ?72, I think. It was unexpected and the mood was sombre. The party was meant to be a celebration. ?We will win it back at the general election?.
David P. did not think so. David was a huge, drunk, recent convert to the left. He was not going to let the mood spoil his night. He had the embarrassing zealousness of Holy Socialism mixed with delirium at the outcome and cheap beer.

I was older and less drunk and seriously concerned that he would, even accidentally, injure Pirie. I foresaw a night in the lock up, where Pirie?s influence would ensure legal and medical problems. I pulled him off Pirie, who had, at first, thought the incident rather amusing, as he had not noticed the fire hydrant that David intended to use.

David agreed that he had not totally understood the Conservative view on Employment and indeed it might be better than the Liberal?s position but he was leaning towards ?taking this implement across that fekkaPirie?s head, right fekkinow.?
No it didn?t happen. Yes, I stopped him. Yes, I wonder why.
