For the last eight years, Republicans and the Conservative Right, like those at the website Free Republic ( http://www.freerepublic.org ), have been sharpening their knives waiting for an impending Hillary Clinton candidacy. There hasn’t been a right wing pundit on TV or the print media who hasn’t warned of the impending doom and inevitability of a Hillary presidency. If you want one example, see this one http://www.townhall.com/columnists/TonyBlankley/2007/03/28/hillary_on_track_for_nomination . Democrats/Liberals/Progressives, take note, this Blankley article has become so funny as a result of recent events that it should not be missed. If you want another, more churlish example, see this thread on Free Republic in response to an article in the UK Telegraph http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/f-news/1907608/posts

All the Republicans have wanted to do for the past eight years is fight against a Hillary Clinton Presidential run. Now it looks like they will never get the chance. I don’t think they can deal with the letdown.

I remember a few months before the first primaries and caucuses of the 2004 campaign, several conservative pundits were sure Hillary was going to jump into the race and challenge Kerry and Howard Dean for the nomination. Ordinarily I would be happy to provide links to examples, but in this case, just try googling specifics about Hillary Clinton and see how many hits you now have to wade through to get what you want. It’s nearly impossible to get to anything past 12 months ago or so. Just take my word for this one.

I’m particularly worried about the Freepers these days. The depression they are all feeling is palpable if you go on that site. I’m concerned that some of them may harm themselves. Their favorite whipping gal is about to become a distant memory on the Presidential scene, neither of their preferred GOP candidates, “I’d rather be reclining in my la-z-boy” Fred Thompson and “let me in the debates even though I am polling lower than shingles” Duncan Hunter are gaining any traction in the race, and Barack Obama got more votes in the Iowa Caucus than all Republican candidates combined. And, darn it; there just hasn’t been enough time for the Freepers to whip up their hatred against Obama. What is a Freeper to do?

I just turned to Fox news and what were Hannity and Colmes doing? They had Dick Morris on talking about Hillary Clinton and what she would need to do to win (and what is she likely to do). Conservatives are desperate to keep talking about her even though it has to be obvious to everyone by now that she is not even close to being the real story anymore. They are like addicted drug users and Hillary Clinton is their crack or heroin (or both). Democrats might want to use this to their advantage and keep Hillary in the race all the way to the convention even if Obama wins every state. Hillary could be for Obama like a matador’s red cape and Republicans would happily play the bull (pun intended). The bull has the intention of going for the matador but it can’t resist that darned red cape. By the way, after a brief interlude of other news, Hannity and Colmes returned to the topic of Hillary Clinton and asked the same questions of two new guests that they had asked of Dick Morris and they all finished by saying that “they would never count out the Clintons”.

The Republican obsession with the Clintons that spans 16 years going back to 1992 is something that has no parallel in the history of American politics. It is going to be very hard for them to stop and figure out what to do once she is no longer in the picture and make no mistake, when the thrashing that Hillary gets at the hands of Obama is complete, that will spell a permanent end to her Presidential ambitions. I have no doubt that they will rebound enough to attempt to thoroughly smear and swift boat Obama, but before they can do that, it will take time for them to shake the Clinton withdrawal and that time will help Obama.

Yeah, LMAO

Obviously, some Republicans have been LIARS to other Republicans.

Now the entire GOParty is guilty by association and everytime someone sees a Republican they think, 'oh, that's one of them from the Party of LIARS.'

The Republicans better sort it out among themselves -- I'm thinking pistols and knives -- so that voters can tell the guilty Republican LIARS apart from the innocent good Republicans.

In what I've seen during the last 16 years, Rash Lamebrain hatetalk radio is the one 'Typhoid Mary' (sick at birth) who contaminated all Republicans with Hillary foaming mouth disease.

Hillary

If Obama is seen as a serious anti-corporate agent then it is only a matter of time before the right wing starts singing Hillary's praises. Watch Lieberman - he is a reliable corporate bellweather.

Good this may be the end of the Bush / Clinton crime wave.

Surely you are more politically anointed than this? The anti Hillary's will bask in the warm glow of saying..."see what we did!" Justification Steven, justification; Americas favorite pastime.

Some of the commenter's need to realize that calling Republicans "liars all" is not wise for those who wish to establish middle ground. But then, like the Hillary haters, I don't think they have any other intention other than further division.

Drive A Stake Through DLC's Heart

Of course the mental masturbators and professional haters of the reich wing were drooling over a Hillary candidacy but what the overpaid idiot consultants trolling for corporate and high rolling Zionist Jewish dollars from those dubbed by General Wesley Clark as the "New York Money People" never bothered to consider is that even liberals hate that phony, two faced triangulating bitch. While I am not a particular fan of Mr. Obama (I prefer John Edwards for his anticorporate stance) I relish seeing the wheels come off of an arrogant, elitist Clinton machine that hijacked the Democratic party to cram globalist policies that gutted the American working class down our throats and stood by while the Constitution was eviscerated and the neocon war criminal junta in the White House took the intelligence of the American people for granted.

The sheep are growing restive and no matter what happens in November are going to shit all over the DLC and it's Reagan lite neoliberal policies.

I would never count that vicious bitch out but you can rest assured that the independents will tell her to go to straight to hell come November even if the Clinton slime machine manages to prop up their putative queen.

Just my two cents

Buddha said that there are no beings to liberate, thus all beings are liberated. In the mean time while trying to realize this in daily life, I'm against the two-party dictaotrship and friendly fascism of the ruling plutocrats and their corporations. I agree with George Carlin who said, "The owners of this country know the truth: its called the American Dream because you have to be asleep to believe it."

The Blakely bit was funny, but your obit of HRC is premature

I really liked the Tony Blakely goof ball piece.  This paragraph is a treasure:

"And, as we are still almost a year from the first primary votes being cast, his freshness and uniqueness will have long faded by then. He might have been formidable in a lightning campaign of three or four months, but in a long ground war of attrition -- bet on Hillary's massive institutional strengths. Just one recent example is her purchase of former Iowa Governor Tom Vilsack's support for the crucial Iowa Caucuses. In one swoop, she has not only bought his endorsement, but the use of his formidable state machine -- which is vital in the hand-to-hand combat of a caucus state. She could buy that not only because she has the money -- but because if a Democratic politician is looking for a place in the presumed next Democratic Administration -- the smart money is on Hillary. There will doubtlessly be more Vilsacks falling into her ample lap in the coming months. Every little bit helps in a war of attrition. "

Could he have been more wrong about Iowa and Obama's ability to organize, especially thosg "young voters" who according to him don't come ot to vote.

But be that as it may, I don't think you should fall into the opposite presumption either. There is a long way to go beyond Iowa and NH. Until the big states on Feb. 5 with CA and NY and IL and NJ are determined we really won't have much of a sense of the real horse race.

One huge factor is whether Edwards will be able to get above 15% in those states with the 15% cutoff for delegates such as CA, NY, IL, and NJ. If he can consistently get at least 15% then there is a chance that neither Obama nor Clintion will be able to get 50% of delegates before the convention. But if Edards can't get the 15% then he won't be draining delegates and Obama and Clintion will be teetering for the whole enchilada.

Today, Clintion has a lead in the polls in CA NJ and NY, but of course that lead is dwindling like it did in NH. But it can change just as fast in the other direction at the whim of the fickle public and the nefarious media.

My guess today is that CLinton will take the majority of delegates in NY and NJ while Obama will take the majority of IL and I think they will evenly split CA.

Hillary Will Rebound When She Supports Impeachment

Hillary will rebound if she claims her support for Impeachment.  That will change the entire campaign, having gained a firm and progressive stand in opposition to Obama who clearly does not support Impeachment.

The election will be about change, not only to bringing justice to the Republican crime wave, but to the entire Democratic party. Obama is going to realize his catering to the Republicans by not supporting impeachment is going to pop is balloon.

Now that she sees the reality from her lost in Iowa, I think she will be more aggressive. Having Hillary go after the Republicans with an impeachment will energize the party and take back what they did to Bill. Some will claim it will be a vendetta impeachment, but I think comparing them which will happen, will bring into focus how totally wrong that assumption is.

Compare Bill with a sex lie, to the murders committed by Bush, not to mention the lies about War, 911, anthrax, and torture, and we can see clearly this story will clear the air about what is impeachable and what is not.

We need it. Thinking this will be partisan bickering is hog slop poppy crock, because the bickering goes on whether impeachment happens or not. Get something for the American people by cleaning up the mess, and set the record straight that yes Impeachment is and can be successful, with convictions of Bush and Cheney.

Our country needs it, and it demands it.

Bill and Hillery were really Republicans in spirit

Usually Republicans have literally assassinated their enemies.  Didn't MLK even come close?

Good post  if just a smidgen premature. Although it doesn't look good.

Obama has hit the real goal "HOPE". If  Edwards sell a bit more Hope than simply change he might yet win.  The crunch will come when they hit the first big SOUTHERN state.

The right shock jocks will be claiming her scalp (if it happens) is as a consequence of their actions.

Your turn now.

Yeah, maybe a bit premature

Looks like Hillary might win New Hampshire after all. Not quite a failing candidacy just yet. Besides, wait until Super Tuesday before writing the obits on any of the front-runners.

On a side note: Where are the folks who predicted Ron Paul would win Iowa and New Hampshire? Hello??

I WISH I ONLY HAD!

Don't you wish you had waited an extra day before you sent this article to the press.  I thought it was Rob at first and I wondered why he would come out with this head-line before the vote had been counted.  But, ... others have stepped up before to only be cut off at the knees.  I, absolutely, am engaged by both Obama and Clinton.
