I was a huge fan of "Deep Thoughts" by Jack Handey on Saturday Night Live. So on my old blog over at "The Dumbya Chronicles", I had a thing where each week I posted a Bush quote that really "spoke" to me and I called them "Deep Quotes". Here are a few of the Gems:

"To occupy Iraq would instantly shatter our coalition, turning the whole Arab world against us and make a broken tyrant into a latter-day hero ... assigning young soldiers to a fruitless hunt for a securely entrenched dictator and condemning them to fight in what would be an un-winnable urban guerilla war. It could only plunge that part of the world into even greater instability."

George H.W. Bush, the 41st President of the United States in "A World Transformed". 1998

-----------------------

"Well, we've tried summits in the past, as you may remember. It wasn't all that long ago where a summit was called and nothing happened, and as a result we had significant intifada in the area."
--George W. Bush Interview with Britain's ITV, as reported by the Associated Press's Ron Fournier on April 5, 2003.

"Somebody told me there's a story floating around that somehow I am blaming the Clinton administration for what's going on in the Middle East right now. ... I appreciate what President Clinton tried to do. He tried to bring peace to the Middle East."
-- George W. Bush, the next day at an April 6 press conference in Crawford, Texas with British Prime Minister Tony Blair.

-----------------------

In honor of the end of the Ari Fleischer era of Shrub's administration, one of Ari the Prevaricator's first press briefings, January 25, 2001, where the head frontman for the administration showed what we were in for:

Ari Fleischer lies about WhiteHouse Vandalism in his Jan 25th Press Briefing

Q Ari, on the vandalism issue, you made light of that the other day, but is this now the subject of a more serious investigation, internally?

MR. FLEISCHER: There is no investigation. What we are doing is cataloging that which took place. And that's the status.

Q We know about the W's, graffiti in the bathrooms. Can you describe what else was done?

MR. FLEISCHER: David, I choose not to. I choose not to describe what acts were done that we found upon arrival because I think that's part of changing the tone in Washington. I think it would be easy for us to reflect and to discuss these things and to be --

Q It is government property.

MR. FLEISCHER: -- and to be critical.

Q This is taxpayer funded property.
