I. I. I. I. - INVOKE, IMPEACH, INDICT, IMPRISON - THIS PATRIOT'S REFRAIN

This afternoon I received an email from Massachusetts Senator Ted Kennedy asking me to visit   http://www.democraticmajority.com/cheney  and sign a petition to remind Vice President Dick Cheney "that he can't ignore our nations's laws."

For me, a longtime advocate of impeaching and indicting President Bush and Vice President Cheney for unconstitutional acts and crimes against humanity, the Senator's request is merely a baby step or half-measure.

If Senator Kennedy truly wants to uphold the Constitution of the United States, the only true and proper action the good Senator should take is to call for the impeachment of George Bush and Dick Cheney.  A "warning" is not strong enough.

It is admirable that Senator Kennedy wants to include we-the-people in his effort to warn Vice President Cheney that he is not above the law.  But the good Senator and his Washington colleagues have ignored the petitions, letters, phone calls, emails, faxes, rallies, marches, panel discussions and pleas of we-the-people to impeach George Bush and Dick Cheney for far too long.

Yesterday at the White House, a group of fifty High School students gave George W. Bush a letter asking him to ensure that the United States won't participate in torture and will uphold its Democratic traditions of decency and human rights.  If fifty high school students can demonstrate their love for their nation and their desire to uphold its principles of fairness and human decency by confronting the President with strength and conviction, why can't powerful Senators Ted Kennedy, Dick Durbin and Harry Reid do the same?  Why can't powerful House leaders Nancy Pelosi and Steny Hoyer follow suit?

Ohio Congressman Dennis Kucinich has patriotically provided all members of the House with a vehicle to impeach Vice President Cheney.  Congressman Kucinich has introduced House Resolution 333 - Articles of Impeachment against Dick Cheney.  It is time for members of the House to sign on to House Resolution 333 to stop Vice President Cheney from defying Congress, engaging in secrecy, and eroding the Constitution of the United States.

Is it worth our efforts as patriots to sign Senator Kennedy's petition to "warn Cheney that as Vice President he can't ignore our nations's laws"?

For me, it is not.

It IS worth my while to let Senator Kennedy know that I, a patriotic American, care too much about my nation to simply sign a petition that WARNS its destroyer.  For this patriot, the only clarion call is:

I. - I. - I. - I.:
INVOKE - Articles of Impeachment against George W. Bush and Dick Cheney
IMPEACH - George W. Bush and Dick Cheney for high crimes and misdemeanors
INDICT - George W. Bush and Dick Cheney to be tried in a criminal court
IMPRISON - George W. Bush and Dick Cheney for the commission of criminal acts

Anything less is UNPATRIOTIC!!!

For those who want to "warn" the Vice President, you can sign Senator Kennedy's petition.  For those who believe in the patriotic refrain of I. - I. - I. - I., you should inform Senator Kennedy that the BABY STEP he has offered is not enough.  It's time to WALK LIKE A MAN!

To contact Senator Kennedy:

I unsubscribed from the mailing list (and told them why: all talk and no action -- funding the ongoing war crimes in Iraq; ignoring Constitution; the refusal to impeach)

It's time someone said it...

while we're still alive: Assassinate.

From Dictionary.com:

1. to kill suddenly or secretively, esp. a politically prominent person; murder premeditatedly and treacherously.

2. to destroy or harm treacherously and viciously: to assassinate a person's character.

Cheney et. al. are doing it to we the people, in the hundreds of thousands; other than logistics, why not return the favor?

This can be construed as criminal conspiracy

Advocating assasination is an act of cowardice and is both morally reprehensible and illegal.

Your lapse of self-control is unacceptable and tars the rest of us.

I uncategorically reject the heinous and treasonable act of assasination and politically motivated violence abroad and will not countenance it here.

Cowardice

Mr. Chapman, you sir are the epitomy of cowardice.  The time has long passed to "ask" our elected liars to do a damn thing for We the People.  The Bush cabinet and the majority of Congress, with a few notable exceptions, are guilty of treason and crimes against humanity.  They should be hanged by the neck until death for their crimes, or, at the very least, imprisoned for life.  There is absolutely no punishment that may be inflicted upon these swine that would ever approach their crimes against the people of the world, this country, and our Constitution.  If you are not the coward that I think you are, stop being an accessory to these crimes by allowing their continuance.

I agree with the pompus ass.

Assasination is not appropriate.  The last thing we need is a martyr.

Impeach.  Try.  Convict.  Remove.  Hand over to the world court for proper handling with a "we won't argue if you want to kill him" letter.

That's the proper handling for Cheny, Bush, Rice, Hadley, Feith, Wolfowitz, Pearl, Card, Rove, Powell, and the 100 or so other members of the criminal cabal that is known as the Rethuglican Administration.

Assasinate the Ruler's Behind the Throne

If you are a political animal on the left, you learn to roll with the punches. Though we may hate to admit it, sometimes we just shake our heads and mutter: “Sweet Jesus, save us from chickenshit Democrats.”

Most of us know how our government operates, time and the Republican Party has stripped us of most of our illusions about “National Interest, National Defense, Law & Order, Balance of Powers,” all that stuff you hear mentioned all the time. Most of us now realize that our input on matters “way beyond our ability to understand,” are decided by people we’ve seldom heard of. These people are not elected leaders, in most cases they are rich and powerful opportunists intent on imposing their will on all the rest of us.

Rupert Murdoch, for instance. Megalomaniac does not do justice to guys like Murdoch. These guys want to rule the world, and they don’t have any moral values to guide them. They want what they want, when they want it. Murdoch has the power to determine what news millions and millions of American’s hear, His version of the news. There are two or three million “Murdochs,” in America, and they determine “National Interest, National Defense, Law & Order, Balance of Powers, all that stuff you hear mentioned all the time.

Guys like Rupert Murdoch tell the Supreme Court what to do.

We know how to get rid of elected leaders who rat us out, but how do we get rid of the real leaders, who own the elected leaders who rat us out.

Well Said!

It is time for our Representatives and Senators to non-partisanly remove the people who are illegally in the president's office.  Stand up and fight for the Constitution and America.  Why can't the elected officials do what the elected officials in the House did to President Clinton?  Just walk on over to the Senate with the impeachment papers and do it?  Sans media coverage because they would not show it, but nevertheless, they must do it.

I signed the petition

I received Senator Kennedy's petition and signed it.

I find the Vice President's assertion of confidentiality in regard to his office complex.

His latest assertion that he not part of the executive branch is a huge whopper and will reduce him to the status of a laughingstock.

Nevertheless, his assertion of confidentiality has validity.  Other professions, notably law, medicine, social work, banking and journalism rely on strict rules of confidentiality to facilitate their business.

It is not difficult to defer to the Vice President's assertion that Federal Executives require also reguire such protection to facilitate the far weightier and complex issues that they must deal with.

Nevertheless, the Vice President's manifest arrogance, his mendaciousness, and his stubborn insistence on the pursuit of manifestly failed and injurious policies mean that his actions should be subjected to public scrutiny.

Perhaps impeachment proceedings are the proper forum for such a hearing, but such a course will inevitably set precedents that will grievously injure us later.

Perhaps, the Senate can use the Vice President's assertion of status as a legislative official to subject him to a real and serious investigation.

I have felt this way for so long!

The four I's are crucial if we are to return to being a country of law.  Assassination is not a lawful act and, I believe, brought us to this disastrous political landscape:  I refer to the assassination of liberal idealism when the Kennedys and King were killed.  The German pastor Bonhoeffer, who participated in a plot to kill Hitler, had a different point of view.  I much prefer to see that our laws can work;  that the rich and powerful are not unaccountable and can be brought to justice.

Response to Sen. Kennedy

I too received this email from Senator Kennedy. I too send back an email rather than signing the petition to remind VP Cheney -- really-- REMIND  Cheney! Should we also remind Cheney that torture is a no no; shredding the Constitution is a no no.

This is the email I sent to Senator Kennedy as a reply, above his request:

Senator Kennedy,

I am a big fan and backer of yours. But this move below is just cutesy. I implore you as one of the most influential Democrats in the Senate and in the country, SIGN ON AS A CO-SPONSOR TO KUCINICH'S ARTICLES OF IMPEACHMENT FOR CHENEY.

I am heartened that apparently a significant number of us sent similar responses. Keep it up. I send impeach emails and articles every day to my Representative and to my two Senators.  I believe it is better for my health and my family’s health than an apple a day.

Cheney is a criminal

I though that one of Cheney's earliest moves in office, when he had secret meetings to form the energy policy showed his evil and criminal side.

Sure, there needs to be some degree of privacy and confidentiality in order to conduct government business, but I'm hard pressed to know why the list of WHO attended the meetings to form the U.S. Energy Policy (and also plan the invasion of Iraq and distribution of their oil reserves) should need to be secret.

How would the workings of OUR government be harmed by knowing WHO was involved in making decisions?  Unless, it would expose that major decisions were being made by major corporate contributors to the Rethuglican Party and Bush/Cheney2000?  THAT would seem to represent a "quid-pro-quo" relationship between campaign contributions and the writing of U.S. Law.  That would seem to be a criminal conspiracy to peddle influence for money.  That would seem to be MASSIVELY ILLEGAL and serious.  I guess a V.P. would have to fight all the way to their (hand-picked) Supreme Court for the right to keep THAT kind of information secret.

Pathetic!

Assassinating these criminals

is like trying to cure smallpox by shaving off the pustules -- it's just makes things worse and spreads the disease around.

That's what these gangsters are -- symptoms of the American disease -- not the disease itself. Look at Iraq -- they assassinated Saddam, and that just made things worse.

No, I don't believe in the 'great man' theory of history -- there are 'great men' (good or evil) at times, but it's the social and political currents which bring them up from the common seas of culture. Those most in danger of being assissinated are those who stand out from the crowd -- and the neocons and Republicans clearly did not -- that's how they got som many votes, and were allowed to steal the rest if that wasn't sufficient to put them in office. 'The fault lies not in our stars, but in ourselves...'

our nation's laws

What a hoot! Edward Kennedy calling people to remind them that Cheney can't ignore our nation's laws, at the same time that he is pulling out all the stops to reward 12-20 million (more or less, maybe 30 million) hispanics who broke our laws to come into the country and stay here. Many of them have broken serious felony laws as well.

Amnesty Dems: you can't have it both ways. You can't whip up public sentiment against an administration that has picked and chosen the laws it wants to follow and ignored the ones they find inconvenient, then cheerlead millions of foreign people who have done exactly the same thing.

Either we're a nation of laws or we're just lawless and corrupt.

I.I.I.I.

I remember an incident in the late 50's or early 60's when Russian premier Nikita Krushchev took off his shoe and started pounding it on his desk during a United Nations meeting in order to make a point. At the time, everyone thought he had gone mad , or was just a complete asshole.

No I can see that this is exactly the type of thing that someone in a position of authority, such a a US congressperson, should do to shake the rest of these sleeping zombies awake before it's too late.

REVOLUTION NOT ASSASSINATION

Assassinating someone will do nothing if you leave the same social system in place.  What we need is revolution.

Devote your efforts to electing a government that WILL make the United States a country where there REALLY IS liberty and justice for all.  When those who benefit unjustly from our present class society try to overthrow the government with a military coup or other violence, be ready to fight them.  It will not be you who are trying to overthrow the government but those who have resorted to a coup, and you will merely be performing your duties as citizens to stop those who are trying to overthrow the government.

As for Robert Chapman's plea that impeachment will lead to worst problems in the future, why did the framers of the Constitution include a provision for impeachment is we are not supposed to ever use it?  And how can we forestall a totalitarian take over of the government if we never use impeachment, the remedy included in the Constitution for precisely this situation?

Chapman's fear about impeachment throws into bold relief exactly what is wrong with liberals -- dithering endlessly in fear of resorting to a remedy, even though it is in the Constitution, because of fears about what MIGHT happen.  Meanwhile, the dithering goes on until it is too late to do anything.

U.S Politics: Voter Incompetence vs Political Corruption

Contemporary U.S. politics provides a bitter lesson in what occurs, when a representative political system implodes, due to widespread voter incompetence, and massive corruption, and criminality, among politicians. Politics in this country today, if we can still call it that, has become a tragic farce, where voters, and political parties, go through all the traditional motions, with one major deficiency: contemporary voters don't appear to have the foggiest idea, of what they're supposed to be doing! The political parties therefore prey upon, voter incompetence! U.S. voters today, clearly lack, even the most basic political instincts, yet have the misfortune of having to go up against powerful special intrests. It is therefore not surprising that the U.S. political system, has been totally taken over by these special interests, and the people kicked, unceremoniously to the curb! The Democrat and Republican parties, are now completely corrupt, controlled by the special interests, and led by stooges, and traitors.

Due to the inability of today's voters, to unite against their common enemies, special interests now rule the nation, through key congressional, whitehouse, and media, puppets. By insuring that most GOP and Dem candidates, will go along with the program, the process of political implosion continues. The people have been reduced to pathetic bystanders, by their own political incompetence, and refusal to learn, from their repeated mistakes. Constantly voting for the same corrupt GOP, and Dem politicians, will never fix anything, but can, and will, make things much, much, worse! It is afterall, quite idiotic, to place the fate of the nation, and the people, in the hands of proven liars and traitors! The public should therefore not be a bit surprised, when these same politicians, ignore treason, and corruption in congress, and the whitehouse! A congress ruled by criminals and traitors, has no inclination, to address the high crimes of their fellow criminals in government. Mr. Chapman's doublespeak , against impeachment, in a prior comment, clearly shows he's well acquainted with the program! The majority of congress is now composed of stooges, and traitors, yet it has been elected, by voters too incompetent, to understand their own part in this tragedy! By continued indulgence in idiotic habits, such as voting for "the lesser of two evils", GOP and Dem candidates, they are merely bringing about their own, and the nation's, political undoing! The problems now confronting the nation are serious, yet easy to understand. They could be immensely helped however, by wiser use of the ballot, and withdrawal of support from the GOP, the Dems, and the mainstream media. On the other hand, getting millions of U.S. voters, more accustomed to behaving like trained seals, than sovereign citizens, to break out of years of self-destructive behavior, is a tall order indeed!
