Wayne. Wayne. You're losing your touch!
First there was your ill fated boycott of ConocoPhillips in 2005 when it dared to challenge the Oklahoma law preventing companies from banning loaded guns in employee cars. A law you helped pass after 12 gun toting employees were fired.
"ConocoPhillips went to federal court to attack your freedom," you thundered. "We're going to make ConocoPhillips the example of what happens when a corporation takes away your Second Amendment rights. If you are a corporation that's anti-gun, anti-gun owner, or anti-Second Amendment, we will spare no effort or expense to work against you, to protect the rights of your law-abiding employees."
No limping quarterly report. No contrite or palliative ConocoPhillips statement. Not even a mention on the web site.
What were you thinking, Wayne? That you could dangle campaign contributions in front of the nation's largest integrated energy company like you do with state politicians--or vote them out of office?
That employers (not to mention malls, schools, hospitals and sporting facilities) want your constituents blowing a fuse in their parking lots with loaded guns? Ever heard of private property, Wayne? It comes before Second Amendment in the dictionary (and probably in court).
Then there was your Katrina "assistance."
While the rest of the nation was sending boats and blankets, you were in the United States District Court for the Eastern District in Louisiana getting a restraining order to keep law enforcement officials from confiscating firearms. Firearms which much of the nation saw looted from stores and aimed at rescuers on television, Wayne.
Then you dis Mayor Ray Nagin as being anti Second Amendment. In public.
"First, he confiscates law-abiding citizens' firearms and lies about it. Then, he fails to comply with court orders. Now he refuses to return the legally owned firearms to their rightful owners by dragging his feet. It's a disgrace," you said.
Finally, you get beleaguered Louisiana Governor Kathleen Blanco to sign the Emergency Powers Protection Act banning firearm confiscations in future emergencies. (Hey people of Louisiana: You might go through another Category 5 storm and another flood but no one will take your firearm!)
And the next week she has to call out the National Guard thanks to six murders in a weekend from nonconfiscated guns!
And now your UN histrionics.
I know when the only weapon you have is a gun, everything will look like a target.
But the UN small arms conference is about coordinating individual nations' policies toward arms shipments and sales-- not taking away your personal Glock, Wayne.
