Hijacking the American Conscience:

The Reality of Conspiracy in the USA & The Way to Progress

By Colin Denny Donoghue

12/25/07

There is an episode of “The Colbert Report” on Comedy Central where Colbert was interviewing the director of the ACLU, Anthony Romero. Colbert aggressively attacked Romero’s position that real patriots protect the Constitution, with statements in effect saying we shouldn’t protect the people that attacked us on September 11th, etc. Although Colbert was more exaggerated than most defenders of the Bush Administration’s actions concerning our Constitutional rights, the exchange on his show, in various forms, is repeated in the major media, and in Congress, repeatedly. The “comedy” version made clearer the reality that 9/11 will always be the excuse and/or justification for pretty much anything Bush, Inc. does, no matter how much it goes against the Constitution, the will of the American People or Congress. Keep this in mind as I present a bigger picture of mainstream America's perception of 9/11 and other critical issues in 2007.

Reality for many Americans today is based on falsehood; it is an illusion that they live in unknowingly. This false reality has been manufactured most drastically by two big lies that have been sold to the American people, and these lies in turn have been supported by two great hypocrisies. The first big lie is that our elections, though flawed, are still basically democratic. The second big lie is the official story of the events of 9/11/2001. The first great hypocrisy is that of the supposedly Christian faith of many in our government and positions of power. The second is the claim of patriotism by the neo-conservative movement and those that blindly follow it.

Before addressing these issues I will briefly summarize the major crimes of the current Administration: a war of aggression, illegal torturing, illegal detentions, illegal domestic spying. These are the well-known crimes of the Bush Administration, there are many others, and yet nothing has been done. No Impeachment proceedings, no war crime trials. Instead we have the American people and the mass media "debating" the issues, while remaining in a small sphere of reality where the official story of the “War on Terror” is always the starting point of debate. This never allows in the crucial truths that would make sense of the seemingly unexplainable, like how Bush/Cheney won in 2004, and how 19 Arabs were able to undermine the greatest military defenses in the entire world, using box cutters alone. Crucial truths that would make sense of the past six years bounce of the mainstream sphere of reality as if it had a force field around it, a force field restricting anything labeled a conspiracy theory from ever being intelligently discussed, investigated or debated. Like the Warren Commission, the 9/11 Commission served the same purpose: to cover-up the obvious truth of government conspiracy and label anyone who points out the glaring evidence, like the controlled demolitions of the twin towers and world trade center building 7, or the necessity of a “magic bullet” in order for the official JFK assassination story to be true, are called “conspiracy nuts”. Status-quo supporters will slander and ridicule those speaking the truth and say that if you believe any conspiracy theory, you believe them all. Based on high quality evidence, one can conclude 9/11 was basically an inside job, and JFK was killed through orchestration of individuals within the US government. These are two events, that the evidence makes very clear were conspiracies, knowing so does not affiliate the individual with other theories that do not have the evidence to support them. If you believe the official stories on these events, you have been fooled by paper-thin government propaganda that can’t hold up to the slightest scholarly inquiry. The mainstream reality however, says you’re a patriot if you believe the propaganda, and an “enemy combatant” if you don’t. The truth has become so radical to the status-quo establishment, that those that speak it are being called domestic terrorists. We live in an America today where peace activists are being illegally spied on by war criminals, paid for with US tax dollars. Those that really stand for democracy, freedom and justice now face arrest, imprisonment and possibly torture with no right to a fair trial.

With the recently passed Military Commissions Act of 2006:
  • Any suspect (anyone arbitrarily labeled an “enemy combatant”) no longer has the right to challenge his/her detention in court. A new judicial system has been established to try a wide variety of people in military commissions that lack the minimal safeguards regarding coerced evidence may deny the right of the accused to examine evidence against them. A person could be sentenced to death under this flawed system.
  • Strips prisoners in Guantanamo – and other alleged “enemy combatants” in U.S. custody -- of the ability to file a writ of habeas corpus and challenge their detention. Many of these prisoners have been held for almost five years without charges or meaningful judicial review
  • Expands the definition of ‘unlawful enemy combatant” to allow the U.S. government to detain people – on or off the battlefield – indefinitely without charge or access to judicial review for an act as minor as writing a check.
  • Provides retroactive immunity to those who may have been implicated in creating policies or participating in abuse and other acts that most of us would consider torture and other cruel, inhuman or degrading treatment.

So returning to Big Lie # 1, we have the 2000 Presidential and 2004 elections that were completely undemocratic, in a word, they were rigged. Most Americans know that Al Gore received more votes than George Bush in the 2000 election. The fiasco of massive illegal disenfranchisement and uncounted ballots culminating in the Supreme Court installment of Bush/Cheney, is for the most part accepted by mainstream society as an unfortunate event that would never happen again. This is where they would be wrong, because it certainly did happen again, in 2004. Extensive reports like that of Congressman John Conyers, “What Went Wrong In Ohio: The Conyers Report On The 2004 Presidential Election” and brilliant articles on the election theft, such as the recent one by Robert F. Kennedy Jr. in Rolling Stone magazine , and books like “Fooled Again: How the Right Stole the 2004 Election & Why They'll Steal the Next One Too (Unless We Stop Them)” by Mark Crispin Miller, have been almost completely ignored by the mainstream press. We let history repeat: Bush/Cheney campaign co-chair Katherine Harris was the secretary of State of Florida during the election charade there, to be followed by Kenneth Blackwell, co-chair of Bush Cheney campaign for his state, Ohio, in 2004. Mark Crispin Miller expounds on the truth brilliantly in his book, explaining how the American people have been fooled again, but this bounces off the sphere of mainstream reality; it doesn’t mesh with the propaganda that Americans have been brainwashed to believe.

Big Lie #2 would have us first forget the hundreds of examples of state-sponsored terrorism throughout history, and how a culture of fear supports the continued power of tyrants. We must not remember the "false-flag” operations of the past like the Reichstag Fire of Adolph Hitler in 1933, which was used to justify the passage of laws similar to our modern day Patriot Act, and how Hitler told lies to the German people to gain clearance for their war of aggression against Poland, (like Iraq) beginning World War 2, and allowing Hitler to become a full-fledged dictator. False-Flag events are not limited to foreign nations however. According to National Security Archive research fellow John Prados, "the American people have long deserved to know the full truth about the Gulf of Tonkin incident. The National Security Agency is to be commended for releasing this piece of the puzzle. The parallels between the faulty intelligence on Tonkin Gulf and the manipulated intelligence used to justify the Iraq War make it all the more worthwhile to re-examine the events of August 1964 in light of new evidence." Last year, Prados edited a National Security Archive briefing book which published for the first time some of the key intercepts from the Gulf of Tonkin crisis. It revealed that The 1964 Golf of Tonkin charade that led to the unjust Vietnam War was a staged event that was used to gain support for expanding the covert military operations in south east Asia. There are several other examples, as shown in the movie “TerrorStorm” (http://www.infowars.com/terrorstorm) & “Zeitgeist” (http://www.zeitgeistmovie.com); the idea of state sponsored terror should not surprise us. To think the idea is ridiculous, we must somehow pretend that those that seek the positions of greatest wealth and power in the world are always benevolent beings. How silly to think that wicked men would want such positions of power and wealth, and might even kill others to attain them! That’s “crazy conspiracy theory”!

So to summarize, we have those that know the truth and are speaking out being ignored by mega-conglomerate right-wing media, and those that have been brainwashed by that media voting for and supporting those who are deliberately destroying the qualify of their lives. The most the mainstream press, or many liberals for that matter, will say is that Bush and Cheney have been “arrogant” in their response to the terrorist attacks of September eleventh. Arrogant is the worst that can be said about fascist, treasonous, mass-murdering war criminals! They make their comments on the assumption that the Bush Administration was not involved in the September eleventh attacks, they base their opinion on a foundation of lies, that has been to fed to them through years of consistent propaganda.
