Last Friday, ABC news began to make available to the public what top members in Congress have known for years; of Mark Foley's criminal inappropriate conduct with underage teenage pages.
It has not not even been one week yet, and it is amazing, the news that continues to break on an hourly basis. It disgraces, ashames and disgusts me that the very top of our American government has known of this criminal activity for years, and has refused to take action of any kind.
And where is my opponent, incumbent Roy Blunt, Congress Majority Whip, 3rd highest ranking member of Congress, and one of the 3 person Leadership Committee members responsible for the handling this for years?
Let's take a look at a few things:
Republicans are demanding that it was the leadership committee's job all this time to investigate and handle this scandal. Roy Blunt has been a member of this 3 person committee for almost 10 years in Congress.
Of these 3 members, my opponent, Roy Blunt is the only member denying any knowledge of these emails, or of Foley's activity.
Roy Blunt was Foley's boss on this committee. Mark Foley worked as a Deputy Whip under Roy Blunt.
And, as of last night, it was reported that top Congress officials have known for at least 3 years of Foley's criminal conduct. And nothing has been done.
So what my opponent, Roy Blunt is telling us, is even though he was over Foley directly, and the top leaders were made aware of this years ago, he never knew of it, and had no knowledge.
And finally, this morning, after almost one week, Roy Blunt finally made a personal statement to reporters, denying any knowledge, and continuing his support and faith in the Speaker, despite majority opinion.
As Roy Blunt's opponent, and a concerned American of our District in SW Missouri, two immediate questions pop up:
If my opponent, Roy Blunt, had no knowledge or involvement, why did it take him one week to make a public statement denying knowledge or involvement?
How could Roy Blunt not have known anything? It makes no logical, rational or ethical sense.
If a supervisor has an employee in the workplace, that works directly under them, has worked with them and known them for years, wouldn't they know about their personal life? And if criminal accusations of their employee were brought up in the workplace, wouldn't they be aware of the accusations? Or would they be the only one in the company that did not know?
