Let me just say a couple of things.
If these allegations are true, our top Republican leaders have known all about this for years. My opponent, Roy Blunt, has been Majority Whip and one of the top 3 members of Congress for almost 10 years. And last fall, it was just him and Hastert for 4 months that headed the leadership committee and ran Congress when these emails were first made public. My opponent, Roy Blunt is standing by his partner at the top. If what Blunt is saying is true, and he had no knowledge, it is blatantly obvious he has not been doing his job as a leader of Congress, and protecting the values of our children and Americans.
If there was a potential federal crime involving children, the internet and sex, going on in our top government, and it was brought to the leadership committee's attention, don't you think all 3 members of that committee would have been aware of that?
Our children are our future. They come first. Before anything. We have to protect our children. At all costs. Government cannot come before this. What happened to these children is a federal crime, a disgrace to our government and a shame to our country. This criminal pattern reportedly has been known for years. Any person who had knowledge of this crime should be held accountable, and prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law. Period.
It truly ashames me as an American to see the direction we are going to be heading this next month. Last night, Hastert told the Chicago Tribune he has no plans of resigning. And my opponent, Roy Blunt, is standing behind the Speaker, defending him and denying knowledge. I cannot believe what our country and government has come to.
We cannot put politics before our children's safety. This cannot wait. An immediate change is needed. Now.
