The Republicans have adopted illiteracy as a stonewall defense against reasoned inquiry and willful ignorance as an alternative to the energy and effort required for reasoned thought.
This departure by the Republicans from the norms of what can be described as human has an analogy in the life cycle of the sea squirt, which in the larval stage is a mobile hunter with a brain, then attaches itself to a rock and becomes a fixed filter feeder without a brain.
Professor Peter Atkins of Oxford University described this transition, peculiar to sea squirts that also applies to Republicans:
In all of the literature of mankind, there can be no more perfect explanation for the phenomenon that is the Republicans.
The Republicans have attached themselves to the rock of Republican ideology from which they filter out perfection in the solution of all problems, pre-packaged answers to all questions and absolute, total certainty about all things.
Given the surrender of thought for ideology, there is no need for a brain.
The Republicans do have one problem for which they have no immediate solution. It is a problem for them that has caused the most political divisiveness our country has ever seen, with the Republicans unalterably against anything proposed by our Democratic president.
The problem the Republicans have is not that the president is a Democrat, but, to put it plainly, it is because he is a black man.
I live in Texas, in the heart of white, smug Republican superiority. What I hear from the people around me here on a regular basis is not what you would expect in our enlightened, democratic society.
What I hear as a common expression, unmindful and uncaring of who might overhear, because everyone in hearing is understood to be in total agreement. What I hear is at bottom what the Republicans are actually so incensed about. What I hear is grossly, extremely offensive and is, I hope, not to be found outside of a Republican stronghold.
The phrase I hear regularly and without apology is:
"That GodDam Ni**er In The White House." (TGDNITWH)
Please note that it is in quotation marks because it is a verbatim quote that has become the mantra, an incantation, repeated exactly, by the Republicans here.
I know, that is an extremely racist, offensive and indelicate phrase, but I feel obligated to report that it is in such common use and is the heartfelt expression of how the Republicans feel.
