That being said"

My Mike completed construction of the MF RABITRYette. It sits snug on the eastern edge of my 12 foot by 12 foot by 10 feet high, grape arbor. We put fiberglass corrugated roof panels just under the vines with a steep tilt to run off the rain. And the frame that holds the cages is high enough to keep the dogs away, yet low enough for easy maintenance.

As to the cages (insert sheepish grin). I purchased very large and very PRETTY cages. They look like houses! And I bought a lot of foolish things. But the budget for set up included $50.00 for just that. Purchased just the water bottle I wanted. Same for the feeders. And it seems I'm going to need a nest box*

When the project begins in earnest, we'll be using hand made cages which we can set up hanging. But don't tell My Mike, he's still adjusting to the whole concept of rabbits. Only took him 3 weeks with the chickens.

Yesterday I picked up my breeding trio.

After 6 months of research of the most common meat breeds. Breeds for production, breeds for meat/bone ratios and more. Not to mention those creepy "Florida Whites" with the pink eyes, Ew . I also briefly considered - briefly - (very briefly) a Heritage Breed - AMERICAN BLUES..

Then I actually started LOOKING for them. Not an easy thing.

What I really needed was a plain old, cross whatever, meat rabbit breeding trio. Period.

Smaller litters? Yes, and that's PERFECT for me. Nice size, good health, 2 year old, proven breeders and a young doe. And the buck and older doe are not related. Sounds good to me.

A Meat Rabbit, simple.

BUT ----- Meat Rabbitries have to HIDE!
