Prison Break

Shot like a flame,
Into the sky we fled,
Bursting like bellows,
Our poor hearts bled.

Leading the way,
Was an innocent soul,
Never had sinned,
Life had taken it's toll.

The prison was cold,
Was a terrible place to be,
Only the strong survived,
Thank God we were free.

The brave were kind,
The weak cruel,
Life's a paradox,
Many a fool.

Some were there,
Who shouldn't have been,
Others out,
Who should've been in.

As for Fidel,
He decided to write,
Always his passion,
Now no need to fight.

Then there was Weiss,
A barber before the war,
He became a nurse,
So he could serve the poor.

Not to forget Felipe,
Who was so kind,
He went back to school,
To care the blind.

Left on our own,
We tried not to stray,
Finished with violence,
Each went his own way.

For these men of honor,
Life was bearable,
However, you must realize,
That this was but a parable.

Today our prisons are full,
Of animals they are not,
Society rips them to pieces,
Then allows them to rot.

Thrown into cages,
Men's mind's groan,
Seeds of despair,
Are continually sown.

Their must be something other,
Their must be a better way,
For what we call our prisons,
Are sink holes of decay.
