Hide Them!

They must be truly horrifying. Really beyond anything we good and true Americans could ever imagine our leaders would order. We church-going, flag-waving, patriots who believe in Democracy and Justice and the Four Freedoms and, well, stuff like that.

The possibility of the release of pictures and videos showing torture perpetrated by CIA personnel, the US military, and so-called "private contractors" remains, and now two Senators, Lindsey Graham (R-SC) and Joe Lieberman (Idiot-Conn) are threatening to shut down the Senate until Congress passes legislation to prohibit the release of this incriminating evidence, digital proof of the depravity into which the Bush Crime Family led the country. This evidence must, must, be destroyed!

According to Roll Call, Graham insists, "We're not going to do any more business in the Senate. Nothing's going forward until we get this right."  By "get this right" he means, of course, bury this evidence, hide it, eliminate it, tell no one we are guilty of these atrocities, if it's hidden no one will ever know, so quick, hide it! And, until it is safely hidden, the business of government will halt. Full stop. We must hide the evidence!

Lieberman? This fool said the release of an earlier batch of photos from Abu Ghraib in 2004 had a "positive effect," in that it rallied the Congress -- and the new president -- to outlaw such practices in the future. The release of additional photos, Lieberman argued, "to me is sheer voyeurism ... and will lead to the death of Americans."

But, gee, Holy Joe, do you really, honestly, truly believe those who would kill Americans are not already fully aware of what occurred in our torture dungeons? C'mon, Joe, who is it really that you want to prevent from seeing our handiwork, our turn-away from civilized behavior?

In a display of complete insanity -- craziness born from his insistence that evidence of criminal activity be destroyed -- Graham is accusing House Democratic leaders (!) of being beholden to "a fringe element in American politics" because he said they appear to be taking the side of the American Civil Liberties Union, which has sued the government under the Freedom of Information Act to obtain the other photos.

A "fringe element?" Those who still believe in the almost dead and rotting "rule of law" that Mr. Graham had no trouble chanting over and over like some deranged mantra from Hell when President Bill Clinton was being tried in the Senate for lying about sex? Graham's determination to bury evidence seems not in keeping with his sworn duties as part of the Judge Advocate General's Corp aka JAG.

As Judge Advocates, Graham and his peers served...

"...primarily as legal advisors to the command to which they are assigned. In this function, they can also serve as the personal legal advisor to their commander. Their advice may cover a wide range of issues dealing with administrative law, government contracting, civilian and military personnel law, law of war and international relations, environmental law, etc. They also serve as prosecutors for the military when conducting courts-martial. They are charged with both the defense and prosecution of military law as provided in the Uniform Code of Military Justice. Highly experienced officers of the JAG Corps often serve as military judges in courts-martial and courts of inquiry."

More succinctly, Graham was an officer of the court, charged with finding the truth, a truth he now wants to destroy. He should be asked about the penalties for violating the UCMJ.

Ah, but never mind. That was then. This is now. Graham is a Republican. And the policy of officially sanctioned torture -- official US policy -- was ordered by other Republicans, criminals all, yes, but Republicans, good and solid Americans, men dedicated to, um, justice and freedom and liberty . . . I'm gonna puke . . .

According to Roll Call, noting that President Barack Obama supports the secrecy, the destruction of evidence, along with a large majority in the Senate, Graham said, "The only body that is off-script in my mind is the House ... Is the ACLU now in charge of the House of Representatives?"

Is the ACLU in charge of the House?! A demand for truth and these sick Republican sons-of-bitches -- assisted by the always creepy Holy Joe Lieberman -- can only bleat, Is the ACLU in charge of the House?

We've lost it, haven't we . . .
