Flushing has a number of definitions, including a face turning red, a hand in poker and emptying a toilet.
I'm talking about a different kind of flushing, described here in the free dictionary:
1. To frighten (a game bird, for example) from cover.
2. To drive or force into the open: The police fired tear gas to flush out the terrorists.
v.intr.To dart out or fly from cover.
n.A bird or flock of birds that has been frightened from cover.
It looks like Edward Snowden and the series of articles Glenn Greenwald and colleagues have published at the Guardian have flushed out and or exposed some un-desirables.
The first was clearly Director of National Intelligence, James Clapper. He blatantly lied to a senate investigative committee and now, he may be
investigated for perjury, which, when done while testifying to congress, carries a five year prison sentence.
But that's just the beginning. Snowden has flushed out a rats nest of liberal Obama supporters-- in congress, in the media, whose heads are so far up Obama's intestinal anatomy that they don't see the hypocrisy of their words.
David Gregory is a good start-- a hack who used to hack for the Washington Post, who has done a lame, stenographic job of taking over for Tim Russert on Meet The Press. Gregory's questioning Glenn Greenwald on why he should not be arrested for his role in reporting on Snowden's whistleblowing could go down in history is a despicable, backstabbing act-- and also as an outing of a media entertainer who pretends to be a journalist. There are a good number of others who have followed suit. Good on Greenwald and Snowden for helping fo flush out (and actually perhaps the toilet definition DOES apply as well) these bogus journalists and showing them to be, in actuality propagandists for the powerful, the state and the corporations which corrupt them.
Next, we have the nations which purport to be democracies, which claim to respect sovereignty and elected leaders. When Germany, Spain, Portugal and France refused to allow the passage over their air space of Bolivian President Evo Morales' jet, they showed what they truly are-- wimped out servants of a brutal, threatening United States. And the US showed how despicably it operates. Some are blaming the CIA. Don't. This must be attributed to Obama. He is the one who is willing to disrespect a democratically elected leader.
With all these flushings out going on, it is a propitious time for whistleblowers to come out and tell the truth. Ah, but for the fact that the Obama administration and it's lower than whaleshit attorney General Eric Holder have brutalized the press and whistleblowers raising the levels of fear to the highest levels ever. Excuse me. My apologies to whales.
With all these flushings out it is time for news networks to fire the characterless actors who have been filling journalist slots. There are plenty of real journalists out there who are willing to ask tough questions and fight to get the truth to the public. I guarantee, if the networks dump the hacks, like Gregory, they will see big improvements in their viewership.
At the recent Netroots conference-- of liberal democrats-- Nancy Pelosi was booed for her attack on Snowden. Other media people who are defenders of moderate Democrats minimized the reports. But Pelosi has shown herself again-- to be a worthless moderate who cares more about protecting a corporatist Democratic president than about the rights of Americans to privacy. Flushed!!
Frankly, there aren't many Democratic members of congress who were not easily flushable. Still, I am hoping that some people who see Ed Snowden for the courageous hero that he is will also the the reality of the people he's "flushed out."
Of course, we are not seeing the mainstream media helping with flushing. That makes them flushed too.
