"Attack!
Counter Attack! And NEVER Apologize!" - Roy Cohn
In his
"60 Minutes" interview with Leslie Stahl, President-elect Donald
Trump made a bombshell statement about the Supreme Court and same-sex marriage.
The Guardian:
Asked by Stahl whether he supported marriage equality, which was made law by the supreme court in Obergefell v
Hodges in 2015, Trump suggested the case did not concern him
to the degree of Roe v Wade.
"It's irrelevant," he said, "Because it was already settled. It's law. It was
settled in the supreme court. I mean it's done."
Jaws
dropped in the land of the Christian Right.
Of
course, Trump also said that he would certainly try to overturn Roe vs Wade by
Supreme Court appointments, but the reaction from pulpits was swift to condemn:
And Tony Perkins of SPLC-listed hate group Family Research Council showed the Christian Right's tenacity on the subject when he said:
America may recognize same-sex marriage now -- but not because voters asked it too! And if the Left thinks the Supreme Court has finally decided the issue, they're in for a major surprise.
The Real Donald Trump
Donald
Trump likes "shock and awe" when it comes to dealing with people: he
delivered it during his campaign rallies and he used it to overshadow his
apparent lack of spirituality and experience. Millions were impressed with the
vigor with which he attacked Clinton - a vigor that convinced the Christian
Right that, when in office, President Trump would be a formidable foe against
the LGBT community. They felt that, as staunch supporters, they could mold this
"baby Christian" into a Crusader
for (their) Christ.
They
showed the same lack of vetting skills that has plagued the Republican Party
for years (think Sarah Palin) and were sucked into Trump's alternate reality.
