Afghanistan has suffered much in more than three decades of wars with foreigners and internal conflict. The whole infrastructure was almost destroyed and pushed the country into the Dark Age. Millions of Afghans became refugees, mostly in Pakistan and in Iran while those who were well off left the country for Europe and the United States and the rest who were facing financial constraints were left on the mercy of invaders, especially of time.

The first thing that the wars targeted was education sector. Till date this sector is facing threats from unknown groups. Schools are destroyed, teachers are threatened and students are poisoned as a tactic to plough the land for militancy, so there would be number of teenagers to serve as mercenaries while damaging own motherland. No man of senses can go against his own motherland as it is the only place where he or she can inhale free breathe. He can travel to any part of his country without any problem or fear. His country nourishes him and provides shelter to him.

Despite of the realities if a person goes against national interests of his country and plays in the hand of foreigners is lacking sense. Education is pivotal source that gives sense to a layman and tells him about what is what and who is who. And award people with special senses to evaluate things behind curtain to avoid mishap.

Thus, it is very important for the government to educate the illiterate citizens to put full stop and recruitment of free mercenaries and materialize its goals of development. It is appreciable that Ministry of Education has taken steps in this regard with the collaboration of donors to empower the adults through vocational trainings and various educational programs with the collaboration of donors.

Although the challenges are many including high number of uneducated people in the country, financial and security problems but the literacy department which works under the jurisdiction of Ministry of Education has several programs on cards to educate nearly 50 percent of illiterate population in next three years in order to overcome the knowledge gap issue.

Hopefully, they could achieve the target as they did in the last two years. But the government and international community should extend its full support to the ministry in this regard, as the performance it showed in last two years is satisfactory. Despite security and financial problems the literacy department through various technical and education programs successfully educated one million illiterate people. Importantly, more than 60 percent of participants were females.

This would enable the womenfolk to educate their children properly as well as support their family financially, through skills they learned in the training programs.

Talking positively, if such programs continue one day more than 80 percent of women would be educated and could raise their children in proper way, so they could work for peace and restrain from taking sides with extremists.
