Tony Newman of Drug Policy Alliance was Heath Ledger's neighbor. He hopes America will now wake up to face overdose risk squarely. It is the second leading cause of death after traffic accidents, but it can be greatly reduced by distributing an opiate antagonist drug and by passing "9-1-1 Good Samaritan" laws giving immunity to those who call for help when a friend overdoses.
