Methane gas is harvested from seams layered in Powder River Basin coal beds. Area is northeastern Wyoming and part of Montana to the north. Mining requires using scarce water to flush the gas out. My childhood home is in this area. Landowners were reluctant to allow it, because water is too scarce to waste. They are assured of topsoil replacement, etc. This article points out that safe water issues are stalled. |
