Joshua DuBois has done himself and The Daily Beast proud today, with this commentary calling evangelical ministers to task for aiding and abetting the white supremacists spread hatred and worse through our country. That ministry has wrapped itself in nationalism and pride, ignoring the parables of Jesus.
When my brother and I cycled through the various religious offerings in our community as kids, I got a fairly good dose of the New Testament. That was leavened by the Catholics, Mormons, and Jewish Temple, which we also visited in our search for the Sunday school with the best cookies...
By the time I was 14, I had enough of the evangelicals, though they did have the best food. The hypocrisy was so blatant a teenager could see through it. Like flipping a light switch the sermons turned from love to hate.
I never returned.
