The N.R.A. is "on the attack with a familiar gun lobby refrain: The nation doesn't need any new gun laws, just better enforcement of laws that already exist.It's a fraudulent argument, but it has been used effectively again and again over the past 20 years to help block meaningful gun reforms." We cannot let theNRA shape the narrative on this issue! I write how Americans are allowing the voices of others to usurp our most important national conversations in order to 'bamboozle us (see my author's page here at OEN).
A must read is the wonderful article by Steve Almond in The NY Times Sunday magazine, last week, about how "the narrative authority in America had changed:" how we hear "only the bits and pieces run through the filter of our chosen media", so that "the greater, human narrative of our species becomes too enormous, too confused , too terrifying." This is how it is done.
