GATLINBURG - Emergency responders are on the scene of a spill at the Gatlinburg wastewater treatment plant on Banner Road that may involve millions of gallons of sewage. A Gatlinburg Police Department spokesman said his department and other emergency crews including fire departments from Gatlinburg and Pigeon Forge were called to the plant just after 9:30 a.m. after being informed that one of the "silos" was leaking. The silo is actually an equalization basin, said Great Smoky Mountain Park spokesman Bob Miller, who is on scene working with city and emergency crews. "The spill is going into the river," Miller said as he stood outside the Gatlinburg Welcome Center, which is next door to the plant. |
