It was Finkelstein's well-known debate with Dershowitz on Democracy Now!, where he showed Dershowitz's book The Case for Israel to be full of factual inaccuracies, that ultimately ended Finkelstein's academic career. Finkelstein underestimated Dershowitz's power and influence.
