I do low level systems programming for IBM's Database, DB2 for Unix and Windows. My years of database programming has been in the lowest levels of guts of the product. This has included work such as implementation of our operating system layer for asynchonous IO implementation and exploitation, Linux and 64-bit porting, concurrency infrastructure (lockless reader/writer mutex implementation, ...). My current work is focused on the DB2 interface to the pureScale server, providing an interface to the higher level DB2 code that allows developers to know as little as possible about the details of the associated redundancy and failover logic as possible. In my spare time I enjoy playing with my awesome kids, keeping in shape, and learning physics and mathematics. My physics and math self-study was focused on Geometric (Clifford) Algebra and its applications. This was supplemented with some formal undergraduate physics courses (QMI/II, relativistic electrodynamics, continuum mechanics, classical optics, statistical mechanics, and condensed matter physics) at the University of Toronto. I am currently working on a part time M.Eng at UofT in the ECE electromagnetics stream, and as part of that work have taken the Modelling of multiphysics systems course.
