Umar Butler is a young mixed Australian author. Born in Australia and raised in the United Arab Emirates, Umar now resides in Melbourne where he is currently studying Laws and International Studies at La Trobe University. Umar is passionate about political issues such as environmentalism, racism and xenophobia. Umar first began his political activism by running an environmental project in the United Arab Emirates where he cleaned up deserts that had been polluted. Umar now uses his writing as a form of political activism. He has worked with the Huffington Post, SBS Australia, and now Djedpress.com. He is currently writing a series of articles for Djed entitled 'Mixed Stories,' which he hopes to adapt into a podcast.

Umar is also an active member of the Australian Muslim community where he has been advocating for increased mental health awareness and better Muslim-Indigenous relations. Umar is extremely passionate about political advocacy in the Islamic community and is determined to better the reputation and esteem of Muslims in Australia.

Umar hopes to use his passion for politics to better the conditions of minorities in Australia. He hopes that through his writings and studies, he can peruse a career where he can achieve such goals.
