Richard A. Lawhern, Ph.D. (UCLA 1977) is a retired military officer and senior systems engineer who comments frequently on US military affairs and systems acquisition. For 18 years he has volunteered time as a moderator and content writer at Internet social networking sites focused on the needs of chronic face pain patients and their families. His redesign of the website of the US Trigeminal Neuralgia Association led to an Aesculapius Award for Excellence in web-based healthcare education.

Dr. Lawhern also writes on the lack of any confirming observational science beneath the entire field of psychosomatic medicine. Recent publications include editorials and research papers at RxISK.com, Dxsummit.org, and madinamerica.org.
