I was born and raised in Salt Lake City and it's nearby suburb city of Murray, Utah. I lived in San Francisco twice: from 31 Oct 1978 to mid-May 1979, and then again from 1 Aug 1982 to 14 Jul 1989. I went to and completed law school at the Univ. of California's Hastings College of the Law in San Francisco in May 1985. I took and passed the California BAR exam in February 1986 and was sworn in as a licensed California attorney later that year. I likely contracted HIV the night of 8 Aug 1982, 9 days before I even started law school. My gay community there was just starting to be devastated by HIV/AIDS, which got exponentially worse while I lived there. My lover died of AIDS on 7 May 1988 and I moved back to Salt Lake City unhealthy, broken and broken in 14 Jul 1989. I've had 2 deadly, AIDS defining cancers -- one in 2011 and the other in early 2014, though am in apparent remission for the time being.
