Jodi Lorimer is author of a recently released book, "Dancing on the Edge of Death; Origins of the Labyrinth in the Paleolithic". Many years ago she was intrigued by reports of peaceful Episcopalians walking a labyrinth as a meditative exercise. Yet what she knew of labyrinths from Greek mythology, there was a cannibalistic monster, the Minotaur, trapped in the center of the labyrinth that would eat all who wandered into his lair. How could these two paradoxical image of deity and monster reside in one symbol? She set about determining the origin of the labyrinth to understand how it could diverge so wildly; that of worship and that of utter destruction. As a result of meticulous research and many years, this book was born. Jodi has been a speaker for the Society for the Anthropology of Consciousness and The Labyrinth Society's Annual Gathering, among other venues, and was invited back again to The Labyrinth Society's 2010 Gathering where she will be presenting on The Egyptian Labyrinth.
Her passions are, not surprisingly, anthropology, archaeology, mythology, and gardening. Her day job is as a voice talent, recording TV, radio and web voiceovers from her home studio in Portland, OR. Should you ride the MAX public transit train in Portland you can listen to her tell you where you are and where to get off. She is married with two grown children.
