A registered nurse who worked for 17 years caring for children and families facing a diagnosis of childhood cancer, I am now disabled with a disease that is becoming world-wide epidemic-Chronic Pain. At present, I work as a "Pain Consultant" offering education, hope, support and guidance to individuals who live with Chronic Pain. I also hope that at some point in the future I gain the ear of health care providers and employers so that I can educate them about the "best practices" for preventing the onset of chronic pain and promoting wellness for those who already have it. This is not an occupation; I remain too debilitated by pain and fatigue to "work" in the customary sense of the word. It is a passion;the result of a promise I made to myself while lying in a hospital bed almost 10 years ago.
