White House position: Two sides or one side? Equal blame, or is one side always blameless? The US is locked into a false reading of the Israel/Palestine conflict that makes it behave like a befuddled lawyer for a very guilty client. Any pretense to even-handedness is rejected and Washington is being exposed as a partisan enabler of the normal every day one-sided violence of Israel's suppression of the Palestinian people as a whole.

Ah Palestine: a non-existing land without people for a non-existing people The Supreme Court of Israel has recently made a ruling that says that all citizens are NOT equal. The court stated that NATIONALITY trumps citizenship and that having a nationality of "Jewish" confers full rights, while the 25% of non-Jewish citizens have no codified inalienable rights. They are only to be tolerated to whatever degree the government permits.

The Iraq Syndrome? AIPAC collides with Vietnam Syndrome's successor and Shatters The recent failure of the Israel Lobby to get enough Senators to go along with its attempt to sabotage US/Iranian negotiations over nuclear weapons is not a one-shot affair. It represents a turning point and the emergence of deep resistance among the American people to perpetual war. Does the once faded "Vietnam Syndrome now have a successor in a new "Iraq Syndrome?" This gives new leverage to anti-war activists.

Atheism: Good, Bad and Ugly Over the past few years a new crop of writers, talking heads and commentators have take up the banner of atheism. People such as Christopher Hitchens, Bill Maher and Sam Harris are not lefty fringe personalities, they reach a wide audience with their atheist message. But their atheism represents a reverse in political direction from the anti-establishment, progressive atheism those of my generation embraced in the 50s and 60s.
