1967-1976 - Worked in family planning programs in Korea, Taiwan, Philippines, Thailand, Nepal, Indonesia and Turkey for Population Council, USAID, & UN agencies. 1976, while working on a PhD in Population and Development Planning at the U of Wash, I learned to juggle. Since 1976 I've been in over 2,000 elem. schools and taught over 1,000,000 kids, teachers & parents to juggle, starting with nylon scarves. This program, Juggling for Success , gives classroom teachers a way to get kids up and moving between major subjects. Kids do better socially and academically once juggling breaks become part of their day. Trained by Al Gore in Jan 2007, I've combined my early passion for population and environment, and my love of working with kids. I've designed Climate Change is Elementary, a one day program that brings climate change messages to elementary schools nationwide, using physical activities, games and skits designed for each grade level. This program involves all the students, all the teachers and most of the parents, and opens up discussion in the school on the topic.
