I am a freelance journalist, a humanistic astrologer and an herbal medicine maker. My primary responsibility is husbanding my wife Iris, an elementary art teacher "with 450 children," ages 5-11. My journalistic experience seems most relevant to Op-Ed News readers. I've sold nearly three dozen articles in the past 25 years, not particularly impressive compared with the "output" of many other writers but significant nonetheless. I tend to write for publication when it becomes clear that other journalists are "missing the story," for one reason or another. It's perhaps noteworthy that *all* my published works have tapped my finances more than any compensation I've received. I spare no expense in getting the facts through various forms of research: purchasing magazine subscriptions, buying books, conducting phone interviews, etc. Nonetheless, it's important to get "paid" because that means I'm a professional punk journalist.
I've mostly written for alternative publications in the Ithaca, NY area. I also published a couple articles for the Progressive Magazine, one in 1989 and the other in 1990. Two of my articles about the "civil war" in Nicaragua were cited by Project Censored, affiliated with Sonoma State University in Rohnert Park, California. These publications included "Peter Fox in Central America," reported in the Ithaca Times and voted the 6th most censored story in 1983, and "Contra Atrocities in Nicaragua," reported in the Ithaca Times and the U.S. Farm News and designated the 12th most censored story in 1985.
I haven't done much writing for publication in the past several years, mainly due to pressing family responsibilities.
My last major journalistic effort involved reporting during 2000-2002 on local development issues in Ithaca involving serious governmental corruption. Elliot Spitzer, then New York's Attorney General ignored my request, published as an op-ed in Gannett's Ithaca Journal to investigate Ithaca's City Hall and the Widewaters development giant who bulldozed democracy while constructing a Home Depot in the viewshed of Buttermilk Falls State Park, a profoundly sacred location in Ithaca. Spitzer was worthless then and later disgraced himself as Governor with his reckless stupidity.
More bio: I am a "9/11 truther,' even though some of the "truther" claims are completely off-the-wall, some perhaps due to provocateurs. Wild and unsubstantiated claims are counterproductive to the Truth.* Likewise, it's abundantly clear that GW Bush and his operatives stole the 2000 and 2004 elections.
* My definition of Truth comes from British philosopher Bernard Williams: Sincerity + Accuracy = Truth
