I love history as it teaches us where we have been and why we are where we currently at. I try to decipher history to learn whom we are.
I learnt that what is going on now has been going on forever. The difference is that we see it in present time instead of reading about it in a history book. And; it is true, all of the spoils are for the victor. The victor is the one who writes the history books.
The biggest thing that I've learnt about the biggest World War (WWII) that humanity had fought is that empires will go down very fast.
The best thing that the Nazis did (obviously; unintentially) is that they destroyed the 2 prevailing empires. Britain & France. Otherwise; colonialism would have lasted well into the 1980's or even the 1990's. Hitler; out of economical greed, liberated many African, central & South East Asian as well as Central American nations.
The selfishness of the British & the French (not to share the globe with the other power (Germany) cost them their big empires.
As old empires go down with the passage of time; new ones come up. The big difference now is that empires do not last for centuries like they have had. Now empires; if they ever develop, last for a very short period (in relative history) as humanity is rapidly changing to the better. Our goal is to reach the realization as fast as possible before wasting too much resources (and most likely humans) and THEN realizing that we not only killed people but lost the opportunity to advance using the same resources.
