George Stern, an ordained rabbi reared in the progressive and diverse neighborhood of Mt. Airy, Philadelphia, is the Executive Director of the Neighborhood Interfaith Movement (NIM), a growing alliance of 58 Protestant, Roman Catholic, Jewish, Unitarian, and Muslim congregations and faith institutions. George is a Phi Beta Kappa graduate of Princeton University with a bachelor?s degree in American Civilization. He was ordained at New York?s Hebrew Union College-Jewish Institute of Religion in 1974. For 27 years, George served as rabbi of Temple Beth Torah in Upper Nyack, NY, where he established strong social justice and community outreach programs. In multiple terms as president of the Nyack Interfaith Clergy Association, he engaged Jews, Christians, and Muslims in Interfaith dialogue and activities. He served as Adjunct Professor and campus rabbi at St. Thomas Aquinas College in Sparkill, NY, from 1984 to 2001. Currently George is on the Boards of West Mount Airy Neighbors and the Central Germantown Council, as well as the Advisory Board of the diverse Keystone State Boychoir and several committees at Germantown Jewish Centre. He served on the Advisory Committee of the Collaborative Response to Crime Victims of the Anti-Violence Project of Philadelphia and is past chair of the Interfaith Children?s Sabbath Committee, affiliated with the Children?s Defense Fund.
