Code Word: CHANGE

An idea whose time has finally come. Change is the number one buzzword at the top of everyone's political lexicon this campaign season. We can all agree at once, from mainstream media to the most casual observer and all of the politicos in between, change is inexorably the prevailing doctrine of the day.

Shall we become lost in the candidates or the issues? Which candidate will most effectively bring about change? What are the most imperative issues demanding immediate change? The process allows for a broad spectrum of analysis, debate, and consensus, that ultimately the power of office is ceded to most competent change agent. I have made my choice for president based generally on these criteria of change and the ability through consensus and mandate to rescue our sinking nation.

Now comes the tough part. As much as our candidates and parties must do an about face, the most intrinsic element of success in this change movement is the electorate. That's right, it is us, the huddled masses! We have all heard the battle cry, now more than ever we must mobilize our efforts to ensure a victory. Did you write a letter to Congress or the Senate? Have you volunteered your services in any way?

These are perilous times and precious little time remains to save our democracy. Activism can only succeed en masse, lest we submit to yet another self fulfilling prophecy shackled in the chains of fascism. We must achieve critical mass through actionable and fundamental change.

The enemies of change are patient, relentless and tireless. They never give up and when defeat is looming on the horizon they resort to the playbook of lie, steal and cheat. They are counting on the constancy of the electorate to fall within the statistical plus/minus of their ability to manipulate yet another election through the auspices of the mainstream media and the privatization of vote tabulation.

There are some who suggest that indeed, we are not ready for change. That the moral certitude of this nation has not been pushed to the brink. That perhaps we will be better served to have another republican take office so when our economy fails utterly, the blame will not be bestowed upon the party of change.

I take great umbrage at anyone who says "not now". It is exactly that thinking that will keep us enslaved forever. It is incumbent upon all of us, the supreme agents of change. Today, right now, do something to effectuate change. The challenge is simple yet requires action. Take a moment to hear the collective voice of this nation. Add your voice to the conversation and together we will have meaningful change.
