Ms. Katie Couric
The Today Show
NBC

Dear Katie,

I have always enjoyed you in your role as a Today Show host and thought that you were a solid entertainer and genuine person. When I heard that you would be taking over the Anchor spot on NBC Nightly News, I was somewhat skeptical of your qualifications but open minded. Then I saw you interview Howard Dean on January 26th regarding the current Jack Abramoff scandal and the President's unprecedented attack on the constitution. I must say you totally disqualified yourself as an objective news person for any salary, let alone the purported $20 million a year your are rumored to be offered.

First your question to Mr. Dean about the President's use of the NSA to circumvent the law was stated in a totally biased way towards the Administrations' position. I will paraphrase it as "what is wrong with the President trying to protect us from terrorists". Ms. Couric, this shows a total lack of understanding of the constitution and FISA or an extreme bias for the President. It is a misleading and distorted propagandized question meant to put legitimate constitutional concerns in a frivolous light.

Your second accusation that "both Democrats and Republicans accepted contributions from Jack Abramoff" shows a total adoption of a lie perpetrated in the press by the Republican Party. It indicates that you are either ignorant of the facts or strictly a shill for the Republican Party.

As a historian, a news analyst and a writer I can only express my profound disappointment at your attempts as a news interviewer and state that such performance disqualifies you as a conveyor of the important public responsibility of a news anchor. In the future, please stick to the kind of stories you did following the Dean interview, how women can successfully cover their behinds to show them in a complementary light.

Sincerely,
John M. Kelley
