We gather here today to discuss the impeachment of the President and Vice President. Many groups today are doing the same thing, all across the nation.
This gathering is special because, as we celebrate International Human Rights Day, we are actually here at UN plaza, where the UN Charter was signed. The UN was started to keep peace. The preamble to the Charter begins:
WE THE PEOPLES OF THE UNITED NATIONS, DETERMINED
to save succeeding generations from the scourge of war, which twice in our lifetime has brought untold sorrow to mankind,...
Many if not most human rights violations occur in the context of war, and are justified by war. Bush justifies torture, suspension of habeas corpus and due process, and other gross human rights violations on the basis of the "war on terror".
Across from the UN is the Isaiah Wall, inscribed with the Biblical prophecy on which the vision of the UN is based:
Isaiah 2:4: "They shall beat their swords into plowshares, and their spears into pruning hooks; nation shall not lift up sword against nation, neither shall they learn war any more".
Since we are in Advent, the season for the preparation of the birth of Jesus, the Prince of Peace, I'm going to take the liberty of giving you some Bible quotes that support impeachment of Bush and Cheney. We need to tear away the cloak of false Christianity which has enabled these men to fool the public into believing that they are basically good men, despite their obvious crimes. Along with the US government, they've hijacked the Bible; we need to reclaim both.
First of all, Bush calls himself "the war president", and justifies his crimes by using the title of Commander-in-Chief in wartime, when we are not at war with any nation. He invaded two countries without declaring war, and is occupying both Iraq and Afghanistan illegally.
He has the audacity to claim God told him to invade Iraq. Do you believe this? Would a loving God tell him to lie us into war, and kill 600,000 Iraqis?
Jesus's birth was accompanied by a message from the Creator- "Peace on earth, good will toward men" (Luke 2:14). One of Jesus' names is the Prince of Peace (Isaiah 9:6). He gave peacemakers a special blessing (Matthew 5:9).
How can a war president represent the Prince of Peace?
He doesn't, of course. Bush and Cheney are famous for their lies and hypocrisy. According to Jesus, these are the hallmark of satan.
" You are of your father the devil, and you want to do the desires of your father. He was a murderer from the beginning, and does not stand in the truth because there is no truth in him Whenever he speaks a lie, he speaks from his own nature, for he is a liar and the father of lies.
The pious rulers of Jesus' day, the Pharisees, were similar.
For those of you who think that impeachment isn't peaceful, listen to what the Prince of Peace hollered at the Pharisees:
" Woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, you hypocrites! For you tithe herbs and spices, and you have made a travesty of the weightier provisions of the law: justice and mercy and faithfulness.
"Woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, you hypocrites! For you clean the outside of the cup and of the dish, but inside are full of robbery and self-indulgence.
" Woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, you hypocrites! For you are like whitewashed tombs which on the outside appear beautiful, but inside are full of dead men's bones and all uncleanness.
And I say- "Woe to you, Bush and Cheney", you hypocrites! For you say you are protecting us from terrorists, while you lie us into war and stir up universal hatred against us.
In the Biblical end-time, here's what happens to satan:
Rev: 20: 10 The devil who deceived the people was thrown into the lake of fire and brimstone.
So hear this, Bush and Cheney. We the people are the rulers of this great nation. You are in office to serve US, and we CAN AND WILL fire you. We will make sure our Representatives in Congress impeach you, that our Senators convict you, that you are ejected from office, and then are tried for your crimes in courts of law.
Power to the people!
Hail to the Prince of Peace!
