Our continued enslavement to oil is no accident. The energy establishment, and their allies, have consistently acted to maintain their dominance by blocking all serious challenges. Achieving real energy independence will require many citizen activists, armed with new information, to become seriously involved. Nothing less can succeed. This paper will provide material for more citizen activists to undertake that task which is becoming ever more urgent.
The main problem preventing rapid energy independence is not technical, financial or even political (which is a real problem). Breakthrough technologies that are clean, cheap, safe, and readily manufactured, already exist and can achieve rapid energy independence. Unfortunately their emergence continues to be blocked. All of that critical knowledge is already published and readily available to anyone who seeks it. I have tried to get various officials to simply investigate and offered to supply many references. So far I have encountered a solid wall of closed minds. The main problem is finding people, at all levels, willing to do some reading with an open mind. This paper is intended to find responsible people willing to spend some time investigating this subject in more detail. I am a retired engineer who has researched this matter and discovered the ready availability of extensive information.
Despite all of the current energy programs, government funding, and some progress towards achieving energy independence, we continue losing ground. Oil prices continue rising, we are becoming more dependent on oil imports and our adversaries are reaping a growing windfall in petrodollars. We have already lost valuable time and time is working rapidly against us. We urgently need to achieve a high degree of energy independence, and very soon, to avoid major environmental damage and to neutralize the increasingly dangerous ‘oil weapon’ in hostile hands.
Our leaders need to understand that the required technologies already exist but have been deliberately blocked. Liberating these breakthrough technologies would shift power, and profits, away from the entire global energy establishment and to the general public. These technologies could trigger an historic energy revolution with beneficial, and far-reaching, political, economic, social and military implications. Powerful interests do not passively sit by and willingly relinquish their dominance. They resist fiercely. It is no accident that for the past century we remained solidly enslaved to oil. And as oil reserves eventually run out the energy establishment will then seek to own, and control, all of the successor technologies to keep prices and profits high.
Anyone who is serious about achieving energy independence should have read the 2006 book, Internal Combustion - How Corporations and Governments Addicted the World to Oil and Derailed the Alternatives by multiple award-winning author and investigative journalist, Edwin Black. www.internalcombustionbook.com Readers will learn, for example, that back in 1912 Henry Ford and Thomas Edison were partners in trying to bring out an electric car and were also working on the all-electric home with plans to use wind generators and storage batteries to eliminate the need for oil. Even then there was sabotage by the oil industry and the makers of gasoline powered vehicles. The ongoing dominance of oil, along with coal and natural gas, was established a century ago, while derailing the alternatives.
These breakthrough energy technologies can also eliminate the need for nuclear power plants which can be used as stepping stones for covertly developing nuclear weapons. There would then be no need, or excuse, to have any nuclear power plants. Existing nuclear plants could safely be shut down.
This entire story needs to be understood both historically and currently. Today there are better breakthrough energy technologies than ever before which can be revealed. But the influential special interests, and corporate obstructionists, are far more adept than ever in blocking progress and covering their tracks behind a media blackout. There is new smoking-gun evidence of corporate conspiracies to restrain trade and block progress. This new evidence needs to be referred to the proper authorities for possible criminal prosecution and a possible class action lawsuit by millions of Americans who have been cheated. Ending the obstruction is key to ending our enslavement to oil.
There is a huge amount of critical information that remains ignored, overlooked and underestimated. The following references reveal only a limited part of the history, politics and technologies, of this extensive subject. In addition to background information the following references include practical suggestions for individual action.
Energy References - Getting a Fast Education
Please take note: The following references comprise serious reading and, while extensive, are actually a small sampling of the vast literature relating to this wide-ranging subject.
Serious readers are urged to at least scan through all of it. Too many opinions are based on too little knowledge and this is part of the problem with achieving real energy independence. These references are best read in the sequence listed and could take a week or two to complete. Most references have comments to identify their contents and purpose. Some references contain multiple links that allow the reader to probe much deeper into these matters.
Some of the information is highly technical or is otherwise beyond the technical expertise of most people. Never the less it is worthwhile to at least scan all the material to know what is available, to absorb whatever one can and to learn just how much information is on display for those with the expertise to understand.
In reading these references you will learn about people of extraordinary brilliance, often shunned by the science establishment - people of great insight, vision and humanity who are potential benefactors of humanity. Many of them suffered harassment, denigration, threats and sometimes even death.
As they say, ‘No good deed goes unpunished’.
