But sometimes when states pass strong laws to protect you, Congress jumps in on the side of industry.
Congress is right now moving quickly to help its friends in the food industry wipe out some good state food safety laws. State food laws protect you from local risks like oyster pathogens or mercury. But Congress wants to lower the bar for everyone and limit food laws to a national standard that may not meet your local needs.
Tell Congress to leave your state's food safety laws alone!
Local and state officials are responsible for 80% of the nation's food safety enforcement. These officials regularly improve training, sanitation and labeling standards to address new food borne diseases and other dangers to our food supply. H.R. 4167 puts a straitjacket on these front-line workers, who are most familiar with local needs.
Please take a moment right now to tell your representatives to vote NO on H.R. 4167.
It will only take a minute and will help preserve the good food safety laws that keep your grocery store shelves safe for you and your family. And take a moment to forward this email to friends and family so they can take action too. This consumer movement gains power every day when you encourage your friends to jump in and help.
