Yes, the end is near for Mr. Trump and he faces the final curtain, the last days of his sordid presidency. And, yes, he did it his way and now he is going to have to pay the price for putting himself and his own objectives ahead of those of the country he was supposed to lead into the future.

The past two years or more have been like an ongoing nightmare for Americans as this unfit president has done everything in his power to take this country in the wrong direction, one that has created nothing but chaos . But, sometimes, miracles do happen and that's what seems is going on right before our eyes, as his path out of office lies before him.

Before we get into the issue of Trump's quite obvious commission of obstruction of justice let's discuss that part of the Mueller report which is of paramount importance to the safety and security of this country; but which has, for some odd reason, not been given anywhere near the proper attention it should have.

Trump and members of his administration were aware from continuous US intelligence briefings that Russia was trying to hack into and interfere with the US election system. And they did nothing. Then, later, the Russians succeeded. Trump and company should have sounded the alarms, mobilizing the FBI and the CIA into swift action.

That didn't happen and, to this day, they have not put forth any plan to make certain this invasion into our democracy is never allowed to happen again. And, as bad as that is, here's something more that really smells . Republicans in Congress have been well aware that Trump has no intention of doing anything to prevent such future attacks by Russians. But they will continue to remain silent and subservient to him.

Now, relative to the matter of obstruction the evidence could not be more clear that Trump did, in fact, obstruct justice time and time again. Where is the proof? All one has to do is to look at the great many videos and tweets, and listen to endless audios in which Trump referred to Mueller's investigation as a witch hunt, a hoax, and nothing more than an attempt to bring him down. That is obstruction.

There is plenty of debate taking place about what Democrats should do now that they have the redacted Mueller report. Some say they should keep impeachment on the table while continuing to gather more evidence . The Judiciary Committee has already demanded a fully underacted report.

The key individuals who should be the first ones to be interviewed are Mueller, Barr, the president's former lawyer Don McGahn, and any number of key individuals named in the report. And then Democrats should see what they have in total before deciding whether to impeach or not.

It they come up with concrete, irrefutable evidence that leaves no doubt whatsoever that Trump committed obstruction then what next? They have to consider the very likely outcome in which they launch the impeachment process and then it would totally fail in the Senate. That would happen as every Republican, regardless of the facts or positive proof, would refuse to accept it and "stand by their man" until the end. Could they take such a chance?

So the question of impeachment or not is a huge dilemma that will require some really deep thought on the part of Democrats. It may be an impossible option because those "mind-conditioned", robotic type members of the GOP who have seen trump committing one case of obstruction after another, will not adhere to their Constitutional responsibilities.

The Democratic candidates for president in the 2020 elections should not fall into the trap of concentrating on trying to denigrate Trump but, rather, stay with the key issues that are of the greatest concern to the American people.

If House Democrats go about this in the right way it will be a slam dunk for America and its people. But if they somehow manage to foul up the effort and snatch defeat from the jaws of victory it will be a win-win for Trump and could propel him to victory in 2020. That cannot, that must not, be allowed to happen.

It will be very interesting to hear Don McGahn's testimony about how Trump put immense pressure on him to try to force Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein to fire Mueller. McGahn indicated that he would resign rather than follow that order. When McGahn appears before Congress what he says could be the deciding factor in the investigation of this rogue, unlawful president.

Suddenly something new has just recently entered this scenario. Trump has come up with yet another tactic to try to impede what Congress is about to do when certain individuals are scheduled to appear before House committees. He has, as his fear and frustration has significantly increased, decided to start a war against Democrats by instructing all potential witnesses to refuse to respond to subpoenas sent to the m.

How ignorant can he be? He just started a war that he can't possibly win. All he is doing is creating new evidence of obstruction of justice. What should Democrats do relative to this threat to block the testimony of witnesses coming from Trump? They should call his bluff since he may, when thus challenged, just back off; and it's highly likely that his lawyers will tell him that this would be another case of obstruction.

And let me add one more thing that technically is not related to impeachment but in my view it should be. I just saw this on TV. Trump, in a tweet after Joe Biden had announced he was a candidate for the presidency in 2020, said this: "It will be nasty you will be dealing with people who truly have some sick and demented ideas."

Sick and demented? And this is coming from someone who has continually shown signs of deep emotional problems, who often has been described by the media as being mentally unstable. Is this the pot calling the kettle black or what? Well, it's even more evidence that America badly needs a president who can keep his head on straight.

For those who have been closely observing what has been going on and Mr. Trump's continuous efforts to bend, twist, and dismiss the rule of law in America, they are aware that he has definite designs to establish an autocratic government in this country with himself as its head.

While he will, in every way possible, continue to attempt to make that very dark objective, his dream, still come true, in his heart he knows that the end is very near and he must now face his final curtain.

DONALD JUDAS TRUMP. The World's Greatest Negotiator. The Best Sex Women Ever Had. The smartest non-tax-payer alive. A man who has NEVER DONE ANYTHING WRONG. My advice would be to not hold your breath. As long as Trump is doing the bidding of the 1%, he will remain where he is. He is surrounded by neocons for a reason. To keep him from straying from the script. The Democrats are there for entertainment purposes only.

I truly hope that after the 2020 fiasco of a presidential election that people will finally understand that they are not part of the elites' plan and get serious about doing something about it.

That's what it's all about. It's the people who have to finally get involved with these elections and vote instead of sitting on their behinds. America is, in fact, in a state of crisis and I really meant what I said about how we could have Trump as the head of an autocratic government after the 2020 election if we allow that 1% to continue to control this government and Trump's 39% to make a bigger impact on this election than the rest of Americans. This could happen and a great many signs point to that distinct possibility .

My point is we're not voting our way out of this crisis. That time has passed. We're going to have to get ACTIVE if we're going to rid ourselves of this illegitimate power structure. The elections are too rigged at this point to be able to bring about the redirection we need. That's what I meant by doing something about it.

You sound like you are talking about a "peoples' revolution" such as Bernie Sanders was advocating a while back. Seems like that is what we need to break up this current system and work to implement one without corporate money and power, the NRA, and the 1%; and to create one that will function to do the will of the people. That is what real democracy is about. Or am I talking about a pipe dream?

No, I'm not advocating Bernie's fake revolution. No politician that pledges to support whomever the Democrats nominate is a revolutionary. We need to get serious about shutting down this imperial machine. Profits are the only thing those in control are concerned about so we need to hurt those profits to let them no we're serious. Boycotts, strikes and massive demonstrations are essential while we still have the option. They are passing bills that criminalize free speech. If we don't push back hard against this tyranny, we are sunk. Bullies don't respond to polite requests. They respond to ultimatums.

How in the world are you going to get the majority of Americans out of their "deep sleep", their extreme state of passiveness? Over the years I've referred to them as in a state of silence, subservience, and submissiveness and that accurately describes what is going on in this country.

The Senate Republicans block everything and the people keep electing them and they remain in control. The 39% of Trump blinded supporters are bad enough but the approximate 43% of their fellow Americans who just don't vote are even worse.

I don't know how in the world we can get the mass of Americans to rise up and do anything short of some other country attacking us. Russia just attacked our democracy and may control our elections and do we see a massive outburst of rage to demand that our government do something, when this government is not doing anything to see that this could never happen again.

We would need a leader like the greatest in world history to motivate these Americans and there is not one present who could do that. I want to try to stay positive but it is very difficult to say the least.

You continue to insist that the only problem is Republicans and non-voters while letting the corporate Democrats off the hook.

And you have no evidence that Russia hacked our elections. Bill Binney proved scientifically that it was a leak, not a hack, but you Russiagaters are so invested in the narrative that science and evidence don't penetrate your thinking.

The question for me and others who don't buy into the Russiagate fairy tale is what will it take to get Dem apologists to see the folly in the lesser of two evils strategy which will continue to drag us over a cliff.

The genius of the Yellow Vests movement in France is it is nonpartisan. That is why the corporatist government fears it so.

Well, I was going to pretty much agree with what you were saying until you made this comment. "And you have no evidence that Russia hacked our elections. Bill Binney proved scientifically that it was a leak, not a hack, but you Russiagaters are so invested in the narrative that science and evidence don't penetrate your thinking."

Now we know who you are. I read the Binney report and he didn't prove anything and his so-called findings were simply not accepted as valid. And I would have to say that you are not the least bit qualified to make any judgment of any kind on this issue of Russian hacking.

And I challenge you to explain how hundreds and thousands of career analysts in numerous intelligence agencies are all wrong and somehow have allowed themselves to become a part of a massive conspiracy that lies about this interference in our elections.

Lois, sorry to say this, but you have no idea in the least of what you are talking about on this issue. It's way over your head. Those thousands of experts on this matter need to get working really hard to make sure this meddling doesn't happen again in 2020 rather than dismissing this threat like you and some others are doing.

Yup. Naive is right. It is not disloyal to this country to think based on our history that ALL the intelligence agencies lie to the public in order to control their perceptions. You forget that it became legal for the government to use propaganda on the American people under Obama. We also know that the media is deeply infiltrated by the CIA. The intelligence agencies are not tasked with protecting the people of this country. They and the military are tasked with protecting Wall St. bankers and corporations from anyone who resists their imperialist aggression. Those same interests are determined to turn Russia into another vassal state of the Western empire. Putin stands in their way and so must be demonized and removed. How many times does this scenario have to play out before the American people recognize the pattern?

This is an empire, not a democracy.

Well, if you want to check out the more than 500 articles that I have written on this website you will see that I have been a very aggressive critic of this government for years and have been totally against it's involvement in Vietnam, Iraq, Afghanistan, Syria, Yemen, and totally against drones; so when I'm called naive by someone like you it is an insult of the highest degree.

Now I'll say this: if someone like you wants to state that you doubt and question this government's conclusions that Russia clearly meddled in our election system then that's no problem. But you should back up your claim with concrete evidence which you have no clue on how to do except refer to Binney whose conclusions are almost universally ignored.

Now when you fail to do that and, instead, make a statement like this: " Those same interests are determined to turn Russia into another vassal state of the Western empire. Putin stands in their way and so must be demonized and removed." You sound like you are a staunch, loyal supporter, and strong advocate of the Russian government and Putin - and Trump.

I believe in the right of all nations to their sovereignty and their right not to be economically sabotaged. We turned Russia into a US vassal under Yeltzin. US economic vultures asset stripped the Russian economy at its weakest moment, right after the collapse of the Soviet Union. It caused millions of premature deaths. Putin kicked the looters out and stopped the bleeding of the economy. Does that make him a bad person? The Russians have done nothing to harm us. Americans have been carefully indoctrinated to fear them and suspect them of trying to undermine our sovereignty when the reality is the opposite. You just can't fathom that it is our government that is the aggressor. That's not on me. The evidence is clear. All you have to do is look.

Both countries have, over the years done very bad things. Do you not remember when Russia took over Eastern Europe and made life a nightmare for many millions of people who it kept in captivity and treated like prisoners and worse; including many of my relatives? That's the beautiful country you love so much. Stop, that's enough. Until proven entirely wrong I will accept the conclusion that Russia did, in fact, interfere in our election system. You can keep pledging allegiance to Binney and Putin.

You SERIOUSLY don't know about the concerted lies our intelligence agencies told to sell the Vietnam and Iraq Wars? Or Clapper's felonious lie to Congress that our government wasn't spying on American citizens? Why wouldn't the motives to lie on Russian hacking be just as powerful? Trusting these agencies strikes me as incredibly naive.

As far as I remember the intelligence agencies did not lie about Iraq, their findings were twisted by Cheney and co. What lies were told about Vietnam?

We don't have to 'trust' intelligence agencies to recognize when they are right.

What lies were told about Vietnam? Apparently, you didn't read the Pentagon Papers or any of Ellsberg's books. Or how about "A Bright Shining Lie"? Wow! Just wow.

You should pay attention. I did not deny that some lies were told about Vietnam. I asked 'what lies'.

The reason is that the previous commenter mentioned "the concerted lies our intelligence agencies told to sell" ... the Vietnam war.

I wanted to discuss these "concerted lies to sell".

Pentagon Papers and "A Bright Shining Lie" are not an appropriate answer to my question.

From Wikipedia:

"A 1996 article in The New York Times said that the Pentagon Papers had demonstrated, among other things, that the Johnson Administration "systematically lied, not only to the public but also to Congress".[3]

...

More specifically, the papers revealed that the U.S. had secretly enlarged the scope of its actions in the Vietnam War with the bombings of nearby Cambodia and Laos , coastal raids on North Vietnam , and Marine Corps attacks, none of which were reported in the mainstream media.[4] "

"A Bright Shining Lie: John Paul Vann and America in Vietnam (1988) is a book by Neil Sheehan , a former New York Times reporter, about killed in action U.S. Army Lieutenant Colonel John Paul Vann and the United States' involvement in the Vietnam War .

...

Summary

John Paul Vann became an adviser to the Saigon regime in the early 1960s. He was an ardent critic of how the war was fought, both on the part of the Saigon regime, which he viewed as corrupt and incompetent, and, as time went by, increasingly, on the part of the U.S. military. In particular, he was critical of the U.S. military command, especially under William Westmoreland , and its inability to adapt to the fact that it was facing a popular guerrilla movement while backing a corrupt regime. He argued that many of the tactics employed (for example the strategic hamlet relocation ) further alienated the population and thus were counterproductive to U.S. objectives. He was often unable to influence the military command but used the Saigon press corps including Sheehan, David Halberstam and Malcolm Browne to disseminate his views"

Again, pay attention.

I'll ask you this simple question: do you actually think that the many thousands of career analysts and others in up to 16 US intelligence agencies and other parts of the government all got together in one giant conspiracy to fool the American people???

I know all about the lies about Vietnam and Iraq and other stupid wars that this government engaged in. But you know what? I think I can make judgments of one versus the other in various situations and not just be some kind of mind-conditioned nerd.

So this is naive? Let me ask you this question; are you saying that you believe that these agencies are not doing and have not done their jobs in taking care of the safety and security of this country and its people? And to trust them in anything is just being naive?

Man, that smacks of disloyalty to this country. One must protest and dissent when it becomes evident that some part of this government has done something wrong but to paint all of these agencies with the same brush and to accuse them of engaging in some kind of conspiracy to me is as wrong as wrong can be.

I still think, the culprit here is the Conservative Agenda, which has not changed an iota from Nixon on up, or down as it's been. They arrive, spend huge money on the military, take their cuts, and disappear until there's more in the till to steal. They run against everything they actually stand for, somehow gain the trust of the bigots they pander to, and wander off when things get too real. Trump was happy to steal an election, but the thing is, I think we've all decided he's neither intelligent nor SANE. He'll say he just wanted to be friends with Russia; is that so wrong? What's the point of jailing all these old farts? Make them pay until they're broke, and let them live on welfare.

I say the meddling was done for the most part by the GOP themselves, hence the withering away of the"Voter Fraud Squad" a week after it started, when they found all the scalliwagging was their own.THEY'RE ALL TO BLAME.

So nice to hear such a rational-minded observation. The GOP has sold its soul.
