Around the world people are marching, rallying, and demonstrating in huge numbers. Some of these countries are ruled by dictators or plutocratic regimes, others are considered democracies. Despite the peril of protest, people are seeking justice, freedom, and decent livelihoods.

Many boast about the United States being the oldest democracy in the world. While there are some street protests in the US, they are sadly too few and far between. Rallies calling attention to climate disruption have received less public support and media attention than they deserve. Likewise, the Parkland rally in Washington, D.C., against gun violence could have received more follow up publicity. And we all remember the massive women's march the day after Trump was inaugurated in Washington, D.C. The subsequent women's marches have attracted smaller crowds and therefore less media coverage.

It is not as if our country doesn't have a historic tradition of sustained demonstrations. Mass protests have carried the labor movement, the farmer movement, the civil rights movement, and the anti-war movement to breakthroughs. These mass protests alone were not the sole drivers of political actionbooks, articles, editorials, pamphlets, posters, and litigation were essential. But visible displays of aggregated people power had a profound effect on those politicians' actions. When politicians put their fingers to the wind, the repeated rumble from the masses is what fills the sails of change.

It is not as if mass injustices are absent in the "land of the free, home of the brave." Sadly, the informed populace is just not showing up in an organized, big crowd fashionthe way they did to challenge the nuclear arms race and nuclear power in the nineteen seventies and eighties. In the era of the iPhone and Internet, activists have greater access to organizing tools than everno postage stamps or costly long-distance telephone calls are needed.

Consider these candidates for mass demonstrations proximate to where the decision makers are located. Millions of young people are being gouged by student loan creditors and for-profit colleges. Whether it is the U.S. Department of Education's high interest rates or the exploitation by for-profit universities, the abuses are outrageous, cruel, and in the latter case, often criminal.

Total outstanding student loans amount to over $1.5 trillion. These burdened young Americans know how to contact each other for free; they also can raise money instantly using new crowdfunding technology. They know how to use the visual arts and the verbal arts. Congress can reverse the predatory practices in higher education. Where is the advocacy from millions of student loan debtors? They could have a huge impact if they surrounded the Capitol or held smaller rallies around Congressional offices back home, especially in the coming election year.

Millions of workers are making, inflation adjusted, less than workers made in 1968. The federal minimum wage, frozen at $7.25, is the culprit. The House of Representatives finally bestirred itself to pass a $15 minimum wage stretched over a number of years. But when the Walmart-indentured members of the Senate look out their windows, it would be nice to see masses of workers surrounding their Senate offices, prior to some insistent personal lobbying?

There are no labor mass rallies in front of Trump's anti-labor White House either, even though, the headquarters of the AFL-CIO are just yards away on 16th Street NW. The face-off of AFL-CIO President Richard Trumka v. Donald Trump is overdue.

Millions of minorities are suffering voter suppression. Civil rights leaders are angry. They anticipate Republicans at the state and federal level to again erect all kinds of insidious roadblocks that disproportionately affect people of color the most. Abuses in the Florida and Georgia races were rampant in 2018. Presidential races in swing states are also plagued by voter suppression tactics. All signs point to a more intrusive stripping of eligible voters in the 2020 election.

Where are the marches before the offices of the state secretary of state and culpable legislators and Governors headquarters?

A quarter of our country's families are poor. A Poor People's Campaign, led by the Reverend William Barber and local pastors, has been protesting in the streets in North Carolina and other states. Their protests deserve far greater attendance. The media has given them too little coverage. But if there were massive demonstrations in major cities and before state legislatures and the Congress, with coordinated demands and large photographs of key politicians fronting for the rich and powerful, will get mass media coverage.

Tens of millions of Americans have no health insurance or are severely underinsured. Thousands of lives are lost annually as a result. This is a problem in America but not other developed nations that have systems in place that prioritize their citizens' health. Getting sick or injured without medical care is far too frequent in the U.S. Those who suffer from this deprivation can be motivated to take to the streets. The health care industry's soaring profits and their mega-rich bosses should move additional Americans to rally for Medicare-for-All!

These rallies can be led by physicians and nurses, tired of the paperwork, the bureaucracy, and the health insurance companies denying access to health care for their patients and arbitrarily rejecting doctor-recommended treatments.

In the nineteen forties, President Harry Truman proposed to Congress universal health insurance. Americans still do not have Medicare-for-All and are paying the highest prices, premiums, and out of pocket bills in the worldnot to mention the human suffering caused by an inadequate healthcare system.

The sad truth is the brainwashed U.S. citizen has given up. The only presidential candidate attempting to revive a united effort is Tulsi Gabard who, of course, is much maligned through false innuendos. To the chagrin of the Deep State, she is refusing to succumb rather intensifies her attack of "the system".

IMHO Trump was elected in 2016 because in large part he was going to "drain the swamp" and I believe his intentions were to do just that, but after several behind the door meetings with Henry Kissinger things changed as he brought in John Bolton, excalated Pompeo, and brought Abrams on board to fall in line with Deep State agenda.

That said should the people wake up and rally behind the only candidate showing the metal to be their leader and to fight for their interests the change this nation has needed for several decades may be in sight. Anything short of that and the abyss we have fallen into will only get deeper.

I agree with you, Dennis, on all of it. Admittedly I have little faith in saviors succeeding from within the system.

Also, if Tulsi is as genuine as she appears, then I'm compelled to express my concern for her safety.

Our world needs MASSIVE numbers of real human beings with a clear goal and its attendant plans of action; noisily refusing to comply with the status quo; and, sadly, willing to suffer and die.

The hideous ones will not succumb easily.

The brainwashed US citizen still believes they can VOTE the bums out. Well, not as long as computers get to "count" the votes, they can't, whatever their strategies. That's what the computers ARE FOR. Watch Bev Harris's excellent HACKING DEMOCRACY on youtube, read her excellent BLACK BOX VOTING. Read Jonathan Simon's excellent COD RED: COMPUTERIZED ELECTION TAMPERING AND THE NEW AMERICAN CENTURY. Like Einstein said, insanity is doing the same thing repeatedly while expecting a different result.

If more of the people now being persuaded to retain "right to choose their health insurer" were at last informed that for-profit insurers invest Billions (of what could go to their actual health care) in some of the worst health-damaging Wall St firms....like cigarettes, junk food, pesticides, GMOs, coal, oil, fracking, military weaponry and a lot more...MAYBE that would inspire more to unite and hit the streets to visibly protest the Privatized, Corporatized system...creating scenes that even the mainstream media couldn't hide.

when we wake up and realize we are all crazy and that our interpretations of reality are projections from our brains, the mysteries of life dissappear. life stands explained. the anger , hate, greed, and blind ambition can be put in perspective. mark twain Maybe we can change things if we stop denying and ignoring things. Maybe there will be a force or knowledge that can help us change this and clean up this mess tu.be/eFkmRp_G2uo HOW FREE ARE WE? INL is a huge 900 square mile nuclear lab reservation, in east idaho. INL is 30 miles from pocatello. There have been 8 children diagnosed with new leukemia cases in pocatello since the wildefire. We know from Chernobyl there is more to come and much of it will be lied about or, hidden. There is an epidemic of children with reactive airway disease in east Idaho. My friend in wyoming, just east of INR was diagnosed with colon cancer at age 50 a month ago. INL has 100s of thousands of tons of nuclear waste from 65 years of nuclear processing and nuclear reactor experimentation. INL has 50 reactors . INL has had 5 nuclear reactor meltdowns . Probably more. SL1 meltdown m.wikipedia.org/wiki/SL-1 Recently there was one of the worst nuclear catastrophes in history , at idaho national laboratory reservation . We did not hear much about it, except some propaganda blurbs.. Completely downplayed by the media. A blip on the goddamned tv screen. The Idaho national wildwire Lab Reservation fire, in July 2019 was a combined nuclear and climate catastrophe wildfire, that put hundreds of tons of the worst radionuclides and radioactive waste smoke in the world, from the heart of the Idaho Nuclear Reservatiion lab, into the western american skys. A doctor at a Larger East Idaho Hospital ocology department has noted 20 new cases of cancer, since the INR fire in July. A pediatrician in Pocatello has noted 36 new cases of reactive airways disease in the pocatello area, since the fire. America is a fascist-plutocracy, nucleoape state, that has had and, has so much secret and open nuclear homicide going on, it dwarfs the rest of the world ten times over. The despicable murican MIC nuclear-oil complex, has destroyed the seas . It has engineered a human nuclear apocolypse, that is destroying our genome and will kill everything in the near future if gone unchecked. And people talk about how secretive the stupid russians are. I hope the russian people overthrow, the rotten nucleoape-autocrat named putin soon, with his nuclear cruise missile explosions and large ocean floating reactors in the arctic . I pray the stupid american people will get rid of the demented orange nuclear fascist, called fuko the clown, soon . Fuko and its gaggle of nuclear-hormesis ghouls, has completely deregulated and cut supervision of all 96 of the nasty decades-old, rotting nuke reactors, in shithole america. Fuko is forcing the moronic, murican zombie people to subsidize 30 nuclear reactors, ready to blow. Fuko has also escalated the world nuclear arms race to the point of critical mass. One can only hope the russian people overthrow, the rotten nucleoape-autocrat named putin soon, with his nuclear cruise missile explosions and large ocean floating reactors in the arctic . I pray the stupid american people will get rid of the demented orange nuclear fascist, called fuko the clown, soon .

Surely we need the congress to 'rise up' as well as America and the World - it is "beyond any doubt" that explosives - not plane impacts and fires alone - destroyed the three World Trade Center towers on Sept. 11, 2001. Had to be 'someone with access to all three Towers' who 'knew how to do it'. #LegalAction.
