Willie said this: "My wife Annie and I have met and spoken with Beto and we share his concern for the direction things are headed," Nelson said in a statement obtained by the Post. "Beto embodies what is special about Texas, an energy and an integrity that is completely genuine."
When Donald Trump comes to rescue Ted Cruz in the biggest stadium in Texas, he might be able to balance out some of the obvious star power implicit in the Willie Nelson-Beto rally planned for Austin for September 29 [at 900 W. Riverside Dr., Austin, Texas] This concert will bring a lot of fence sitters and even some country music fans to the polls to vote for Beto. Willie Nelson is a powerful force, and a very convincing one at that.
Such support, the very first political rally Willie Nelson has ever done, has not been without critics:

title for search: Willie Nelson is playing his first-ever political concert, for Beto O'Rourke. Some fans are abandoning him.
From The Hill's article:
Fans swarmed the artist's Facebook page, where he shared a post announcing his decision, with comments accusing Nelson of aligning with O'Rourke's "socialist" positions."Open your eyes Willie!" one user said on his Facebook. "Beto is a Socialist who probably has lied to you. This is a real shame you support him."
"Wow what a let down," another user said. "You would pick a socialist agenda and an Anti American fellow like BETO, shame on you."
"I am no longer willing to watch that hippie guitarist who supports that " socialist running for Senate," another user said on Twitter.
Others defended the country music legend: "Not sure what went wrong in your life that would make you insult Willie Nelson. You can argue politics all you want but you cannot argue Willie."
