Protect LGBT Workers from Workplace Discrimination

An executive order guarding individuals working for federal contractors against discrimination centered on sexual orientation or gender identity would have an astonishing impact in facilitating elimination of
discrimination within organizations that receive public funding.

When supplemented by the legal defenses currently afforded to federal workers and for employees in states and cities with LGBT-inclusive nondiscrimination statutes, an executive order directed at federal contractors will result in more than fifty percent of the American workforce possessing lawfully mandatory protections against discrimination
founded upon sexual orientation or gender identity.

A huge majority of Americans support federal guidelines that improve employment equality for LGBT persons including most self-identified Democrats, Republicans, and Independents. 

Furthermore, countless large and small organizations including numerous federal contractors have already instituted such action of their own accord, and announce that they
have very little or no expenses and truly acquire longer-term profits.

It is time to guarantee that federal contractors receiving public monies don't discriminate against job applicants and workers grounded upon sexual orientation or gender identity. For the above-noted reasons, I hereby respectfully and strongly urge President Barack Obama to sign an executive order requiring contractors to prohibit discrimination based on sexual orientation or gender identity.
