Further to the recent U.S. House of Representatives Committee on Veterans' Affairs round table session on July 21st, 2010 to hear presentations on alternatives for treating PTSD post traumatic stress, the issue continues to make news in Washington, but the news is not what those seeking to improve the treatment of combat veterans would hope for.

Records indicate that the Army routinely misdiagnosed soldiers with post traumatic stress as having personality disorders. Deemed a pre-existing condition, personality disorder does not fall under the military's list of conditions for which it is accountable for providing care. Relieved of its responsibly means that a veteran's health care and disability costs are not covered if they are diagnosed with personality disorder. Studies into the military's own mistaken diagnosis of trauma speak to how difficult it is for veterans to receive the acknowledgment and treatment they need.
