While my preferred news channels, RT, France 24 and MSNBC concentrate their foreign news on the Ukraine and Gaza crises (with France 24 devoted a lot of air time to Africa), CNN reported in detail about the humanitarian disaster unfolding in Iraq. As ISIS overruns ever greater areas of that country we purported to 'liberate', a little-known Kurdish minority, the Yazidis, may be facing genocide, while the Christian community as well as Iraq's Shi'ites are also targeted by the ISIS religious fanatics. The sole Yazidi member of the Iraqi parliament, who happens to be a woman, is shown making a truly desperate plea to her fellow representatives to save Yazidi women from rape and torture.[tag]

According to Wolf Blitzer and his reporters, the Maliki government appears to be petrified by what is going on, unable to react. Obama is said to be considering what, if anything, the United States could or should do. Apparently, unlike the pretty straightforward crises in Ukraine and Gaza, the Middle East has become so complicated, that even the White House's Three Witches (UN Ambassador R2P Samantha Power , Security Advisor Susan Rice and State gadfly Victoria Nuland) are at a loss this time.
