A group of powerful Kuwaiti parliamentarians had demanded of the government of Kuwait to put an immediate ban on the entry of any member of the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) of India into Kuwait.
The 22 parliamentarians wrote a letter to the Speaker of the National Assembly about atrocities being committed by the ruling BJP in India against the Muslim minority.
In a tweet on the social media platform Twitter, they said "We can't sit back and watch Muslim girls being publicly persecuted they said. Time for the Ummah to unite." They said female Muslim students were being stopped from entering educational institutions in Hijab.
Congress MP Shashi Tharoor reacted to Kuwaiti parliamentarians' tweet saying "Domestic actions have international repercussions".
Kuwaiti activists gathered in Irada Square in Kuwait City last week to support Muslim women in India following a ban on hijab at schools and colleges in the southern Indian state of Karnataka.
The women's wing of the Islamic Constitutional Movement also staged a protest at the Green Island's parking in front of the Indian embassy in Kuwait in support of Muslim women in India following the ban on hijab in schools.
Earlier on February 14, the 57-member Organization of Islamic Cooperation had expressed "deep concern" over the hijab row as well as the Dharam Sansad, an event where several attendees called for a genocide of Muslims
Protest
in US against Hijab Ban in India
On Sunday, February 20th, the Washington Chapter of the Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR-WA), a leading American Muslim civil advocacy group, joined local and national activists for a protest against the recent hijab bans in India.
The Coalition of Seattle Indian-Americans, along with the Indian-American Muslim Council were leading the protest, which took place at Bellevue Crossroads Park. In recent weeks, Muslim women in Karnataka who wear the hijab have been kicked out of classrooms and prevented from entering universities, and face a large upswing in harassment and threats of violence.
In a statement, CAIR-WA Executive Director Imraan Siddiqi said: "As an Indian-American Muslim, it is truly disheartening to see just how far the nation of my ancestry has devolved in recent years. India's Muslims and other minority groups are continuing to be marginalized by the extremist, ultra-nationalistic government - and this hijab ban is just the latest step in the normalization of this fascistic behavior. It is vital that all communities of conscience stand up against systemic discrimination."
