How to Get Unstuck in Business

Are you at a point in your business where you feel like you're not growing, but you're not shrinking either? Business isn't horrible, but you simply are not making any progress toward your goals. You've have hit a plateau. You feel stuck. The hamster wheel keeps spinning, but you're not going anywhere.

Serial entrepreneurs and innovators throughout history have gotten themselves unstuck by following a few simple steps.

ACCEPT THAT THERE ARE IDEAS IN THE AIR: Serial entrepreneurs and innovators know all the information they need to solve their problem already exists somewhere in the universe, and all they have to do is reach out and grab it. Throughout history, there have been many simultaneous discoveries by different people working independently on different parts of the planet. Here are just a few examples: (1) light bulb; (2) telephone; (3) splitting of the atom; (4) airplane; (5) steamship; (6) the electric motor; (7) typewriter. The sooner you accept the fact the information you need already exists, the sooner you can start looking for it.

EXPECT TO FIND IT: Serial entrepreneurs and innovators choose the power of belief over the power of fear. When you choose to believe, something magical happens inside your brain. It has been scientifically proven that the power of belief: (a) stimulates creativity and problem solving skills; (b) floods the neocortex with blood, nutrients, and oxygen; (c) floods our system with dopamine, serotonin, and endorphins (which give us confidence and courage to act); (e) stimulates cell growth and the creation of new neural connections. So, every morning when you wake up, make a choice to believe. Expect to find the answers you need, and they will start magically popping up all around you. This is not hocus-pocus or touchy-feely "positive thinking" stuff. Something very tangible is happening at the neurological level when you choose to believe.

Moreover, belief allows us to embrace the absurd, the ridiculous, and the impossible. It's what allowed Christopher Columbus to sail west in order to find a way to the east. It's what allows us to suspend twenty tons of metal and human beings 30,000 feet up in the air and fly them around the world. Before we started experimenting with this technology, somebody had to believe it could be done. The power of belief allows us to transmit words, music, and videos over a pair of electrical wires, and in fact, through thin air. Somewhere back in time, Alexander Graham Bell chose to believe. The power of belief recently allowed us to land a rocket ship on a speeding comet moving at a staggering 84,000 mph at a distance of 6.5 billion kilometers from earth. The power of belief allowed us to split the atom, even though the very word "atom" itself means "unsplittable."

In short, the power of belief allows us to see things with the brain that we can't see with our eyes. It allows us to see things that do not yet exist as though they do exist. Then it gives us the courage and confidence to make it happen.

DEVELOP A HEIGHTENED AWARENESS: A heightened awareness is like a radio. It allows you to tune into information that is already there. This happens when you choose something new to be relevant that was never relevant before. It happens when you buy a new white Toyota pickup truck. Suddenly, you start seeing white Toyota pickup trucks everywhere. They were always there. But you had no reason to see them before. Now you do. Serial entrepreneurs and innovators have a heightened awareness of new business opportunities that are all around them. Once you develop this heightened awareness, you will start seeing them too.

LOOK FOR HIDDEN CONNECTIONS BETWEEN UNRELATED OBJECTS: All our lives, we are taught to group similar things together. Our socks have to match. Our clothes have to be color coordinated. The furniture in our house has to have a unifying theme and color scheme. However, people we call geniuses have learned to look for the hidden connection between unrelated objects. Here are just a few examples that changed the course of history: (1) Stone + stick = axe; (2) clay + fire = pottery; (3) mud + hay = bricks; sticker burs + socks = Velcro; (4) steam + sailboat = steamboat; (5) computers + telephone lines = internet; (6) cell phone + internet = smart phone. Always look for the hidden connection and you will discover new and amazing things.

PAY ATTENTION TO YOUR ACCIDENTS AND MISTAKES: Some of the greatest discoveries in history came about as the result of an accident or a mistake. Here are a few examples: (1) Penicillin; (2) Velcro; (3) Post-it-Notes; (4) ScotchGard; (5) Facebook; (6) Slinky; (7) Frisbee; (8) microwave; (9) Vaseline. The people who stumbled upon them did not ignore their findings or throw them away as a mistake.

CONCLUSION: In order to get unstuck and start achieving significant growth, you have to understand that your brain is like a radio. You have to tune it in to the information that is already there. Once you learn how to access this information, you will be unstoppable.
